MY LIFE IN 1950
"How do you do, this is Danderoo comin' to you loud and clear from the Big Boomin' Voice of the Great Gulf South, WYNK... deep in the Heart of Dixie right here in Baton Rouge, Looziana. That was my opening line each day on my radio program, the DC RC Sippers Association Radio Program, where I would be sippin' on ice cold RC Colas, eatin' moon pies and playin' the best country music anyplace, anywhere... yes, I could really pick good country music and really please an audience... I was just a modestly talented disc jockey with an average radio voice... but I really, really knew my music... and it ain't braggin' if you can do it... go ask Dizzy Dean. (Note it's DC RD Sippers Association Radio Program... not EC RC Sippers... I used my first name on the radio... not my middle name) And yes, I know it was a corny radio show... but it helped me pay my bills and have a good life... plus it was a lot of fun, too. And now let's get back to EC's day and time, 1950... the number one song in the country is still an instrumental, "The Third Man Theme", featured in the classic movie of the same name... the song is played on an unusual instrument, a zither, which is a stringed instrument played with picks and using both hands... it is unique... this could be the only song on the music charts that ever used a zither. It's still going strong on the music charts and jukeboxes... been number one for over a month... here's Anton Karas and his big hit, "The Third Man Theme". https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q...F122&FORM=VIRE And if that song is too high class for the culturally challenged, people like yours truly, EC, here is a huge hit by two legends, Kay Starr and Tennesee Ernie Ford... "I'll Never Be Free"... it's kind of bluesy... it's kind of country... and it's a good 'un." So Little Darlin's, Buckaroos, the Culturally Challenged, Friends, Romans and Countrymen, lend me you everlovin' ears for about three minutes. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q...B85A&FORM=VIRE Last edited by Eugene Church; 07-23-2019 at 07:09 PM. |
