Rule 5 Alternative
I'm so frustrated with Rule 5 in the online league I'm in. The league I'm in, every year it seems that someone forgets to place their best prospects on the 40 man roster which causes problems every year.
I was wondering does anyone have any rule suggestions that would allow for minor league players to not be stashed in the minors forever, yet still get rid of Rule 5 (if that makes any sense. I'm not a natural baseball guy)? |

No ingame help. I think it depends on the "level" of competition in the league. I am a commish in a newbie friendly league. We do a sim up to the day before the Rule V. Then everyone exports their rosters with their players protected. I check the Rule V pool and put any unprotected players that never should be eligible back on their teams. We then Download, build draft lists, upload and run the Rule V. It really only adds one sim to the calender.
If the league is more unforgiving then they lose the players. The only other thing I can think of is really subjective. Prospects that have no business being unprotected are released as FA. It gives everyone a shot at them, although if Gms are going to leave players unprotected then the bottom teams should get them in my opinion. Good luck, Tom

Did I miss something. Is the problem just owners whining or something structural. Can't think of anything better, but I'm not a commish. Well run leagues will make owners aware as TGH says.

I guess the only work around for this is to change the Minor League Free Agent years.
4 years they become a FA? So owners will have to give them an extension and most 3 stars and above will want a major league contract, which will mean less money to spend on Major League FA's |
