Hey everyone, and happy non-denominational holiday festivity! I'm going to be doing a dynasty report completely on the iPad. This means I will take advantage of the many features of iOOTP. Weird trading, no waivers, and the likes will all be part of my Chicago Cubs.

First post will be a summary of the team as it is, then I will probably post updates every month, plus trade news and such.

Very good slider, no fastball to back it up. Not a high enough groundball %. Will either be flipped or released this year.

High 80's fastball at best. No go-to pitch. Cheap signing where there's room to be filled.

4.) Jeff Samardzija - (35/36) (6-7-5-7) 27

Great out of the bullpen last year. Decent potential, a good mix of 5 pitches. Looks to max out at a #3 starter at best.

5.) Chris Volstad - (31/39) (5-7-7-8) 25
$2,655,000 (Arbitration Eligible)
Young guy with a little potential. Good mix of pitches. Will probably max out at #4, if that.

Relievers

Has great stuff and a good slider. Great changeup to make up for a less than overpowering fastball.

2.) Randy Wells - (48/48) (6-6-7-7) 29
$2,705,000 (Arbitration Eligible)
Lost a spot in the rotation with a 4.99 ERA and the new additions. Could work back in if he performs well in the pen.

3.) Travis Wood - (22/40) (6-6-5-7) 25

Potential to get into the rotation with a few years of improvement. Could potentially be a #4 guy if he performs.

4.) Rodrigo Lopez - (21/21) (5-6-8-7) 36
$480,000 (One Year Left, FA)
Journeyman starter that can't start anymore. Signed last year to fill a major gap. Will most likely be non-tendered.

Setup

1.) Kerry Wood - (76/76) (10-7-5-2) 34

Signed mostly because of the fans. Will prove to be a decent setup man if he can replicate his success with the Yankees.

Signed for the league minimum because of the weakness in the bullpen. Will probably be signed back again because of the low-risk.

Closer

Great slider and changeup. Decent fastball. Only worry is control. Will probably be flipped if he doesn't bounce back from last year.

Could develop into a 30+ homerun hitter. May get flipped if Anthony Rizzo develops. Even at 29, still has potential.

A great young second baseman. Decent contact hitter and a stellar fielder. Could develop into a perennial all-star.

3B.) Ian Stewart - (32/32) (5-7-6-7) 26

Coming off an awful season. Hopes to rebound back to 200 form with 25 homeruns. May be flipped if he doesn't recover.

SS.) Starlin Castro - (72/78) (8-3-3-8) 22

A great young player, already one of the best contact hitters in the league. Could hit like Ichiro if he develops any more.

LF.) Marlon Byrd - (54/54) (7-5-4-8) 34
$5,000,000 (One Year Left, FA)
Not a cornerstone for the rebuilding effort. Will most likely be flipped for a younger LF, especially with Alfonso Soriano at almost 36.

A young player that hasn't show his potential yet. Not the first choice for a CF yet.

RF.) David DeJesus - (54/54) (6-4-6-7) 32

A decent hitting, great fielding player. Had a bit of an off year with Oakland, hoping to improve. May be flipped at the deadline.

Has a great arm behind the plate. Can't hit that well, but may be able to develop that.

A old backup with experience under his belt. May be thrown in as an extra in a trade soon.

Not much more potential for his age. May be traded because of such a big salary hit for his skills.

His knee isn't what it used to be. If his contract can be traded off, there will be no hesitation in doing so, even with the power he provides.

Good backup/ pinch hitter. Can field the entire outfield well. Will probably be resigned for taking on a backup role so gracefully.

Massive Trade, Massive Contracts

A big trade between the Cubs and Indians was finalized yesterday evening. The Cubs got Derek Lowe, Carlos Santana, and Jeanmar Gomez. The Indians got Alfonso Soriano, Geovany Soto, Matt Garza, and Joe Mather.

Cubs off to a Slow Start
The Cubs started their season at 10/13, 7.5 games behind the league-leading Cardinals. Derek Lowe lost his spot in the rotation after a check-up on his remaining skills. Taking his place is Chris Volstad, who's been decent out of the pen and has shown some great development. Carlos Marmol is coming back well after last season with a 0.71 ERA and 7 saves already. David DeJesus lost his spot in the lineup after a strong showing by Vladimir Guerrero, with a .303 AVG and 5 homeruns. The rookie Brett Jackson didn't perform very well yet, failing to reach the Mendoza line. Bryan LaHair leads the league in homeruns and total bases.

Draft Pool Revealed

The soon-to-be newest members of the major leagues were revealed today. One of the most highly touted of the group, 21 year old starter Chuck Shelton looks to be a Hoyt Wilhelm-esque pitcher in the near future. With a nasty knuckleball, he'll be a top 5 pick at worst. He probably won't be available when the Cubs' pick comes around though. Even so, the Cubs will want him once he becomes available in any way.

Old RF Signed to Extension

Vladimir Guerrero was signed to a three year extension last night. He spoke highly of the team and was performing pretty well, so it led to this. A $2,000,000 per year salary is just what he deserved.

The recently struggling RF is asking for either a spot in the lineup, or a trade to someone who appreciates his talent. Based on Vladimir Guerrero's success, he'll probably be traded soon.

Bryan LaHair went 5/6 in the recent clobbering of the White Sox. 3 singles, a double, a homerun, and 7 RBI helped the Cubs to a 21-8 win over the Sox.

Veteran Speedster Brought to Town with Prospects
The Cubs recently reached an agreement with the Phillies to trade some high-level prospects and speedster Juan Pierre to Chicago. The Cubs gave up 19 year old Javier Baez, and got pitching prospect Trevor May along with Pierre. The Cubs saw this as a chance to upgrade their farm system as well as add some speed to the majors. Pierre was looking for a trade after Philadelphia didn't treat him right.

Storming and Performing
Marlon Byrd and Reed Johnson made headlines yesterday. Marlon Byrd in a good way, Johnson, not so much. Reed asked for a trade because he wasn't starting. Marlon won the NL player of the week award, batting .545 with 3 HR this week. Marlon may be resigned now, Reed may be non-tendered.

I'm up to 2016 with my Cubs, won the pennant in 2014, won it all in 2015. Made some unrealistic trades with the computer Gm's. Got Mike Trout for Kerry Wood, ended up with Buster Posey after some maneuvering got me J.P. Arrencibia to use for bait. Rizzo led the league with 49 homers in 2014. Signed Max Scherzer as free agent and went 20-3 with a 2.55 era and won outstanding pitcher award, and now I don't have enough money to keep him next year. Moved Jackson to left with Trout in center. Sent Barney to the minors because his on base is just too low. Get guys in the lineup with high on base, led the Majors in runs scored the last two years doing that. Have fun!

You'll definitely see some unrealistic trades in the future. I'm at like July in the game, just doing the write-ups, and I'll tell ya: the AI is really derpy.

Hitting their Stride
After a disappointing first month, the Cubs really turned it around, going 17-11 with some great performances. Carlos Marmol continued his torrid streak, finishing the month so far with a 0.78 ERA and 11 saves. The newly crowned player of the month, Bryan LaHair hit over .380 for the month and had 13 HR, raising his total so far to 21, hitting almost as many homers in the month as second place has all year (14)! He also leads in RBI by 12, and could potentially be a triple crown candidate, if he stays healthy and hits a little bit more for average. Surprise starter Vladimir Guerrero continued his bid for a job by hitting .319 overall with a now-total of 9 HR. The Cubs will definitely be looking for some new starters: none of theirs have an ERA below 4.60, which is a scary thought for a winning team. Their ragtag offense can't carry the Cubs the whole year.

The Cubs have the 20th overall pick of the draft and are really looking for a SP prospect.

Byrd Resigned to Multi-Year Extension
Marlon Byrd, the Cubs' starting CF got resigned after a recent hot streak. A new deal worth $12,000,000 total over two years will be a steal if he keeps his batting up like this.

Ma-homing In
Paul Maholm buckled down against the Red Sox and shut them out on a three-hitter, 4-0. Half of the offense came from Bryan LaHair's league leading 22nd homerun. But the big news is Maholm's 5.03 ERA, even including the shutout. The Cubs will definitely look for this success to roll over to the rest of his season.

Giant Trade
The Cubs have shipped away Roy Oswalt and others for Madison Bumgarner and a prospect. Oswalt, who wasn't performing up to his contract, was exchanged for the 22 year old phenom. Roy Oswalt was sent away along with Rafael Dolis, Brett Jackson, and Junior Lake. The Cubs got Bumgarner and CF prospect Gary Brown from the Giants.
