Does a players defense get better like in normal OOTP? If I play Machado at second base will he get better?

It will improve only if the player doesn't already have a rating for that position.

Some players have ratings for positions that do not reflect the max of their capabilities. When this occurs, it is always (I think) for players who played multiple positions and played enough to get some training but not enough to be completed. This is usually for secondary positions, but some select cards will be able to increase their defense at their primary position (such as how Willie Wilson's CF defense will increase from a 60 to a 67).

So if I purchase kevin pillar and make him a left fielder will he be a good defender at that position?

If you make center fielders with good defense left or right fielders they will have really good ratings at those positions. I did that with Chet Lemon and Maddox.

Keep in mind, training in Entry Pool does not carry over to the actual tiers. Training accumulated in Iron and beyond will stick with your player
