A Question About the Draft Process
Much as it is real life, Draft Day in OOTP is looked forward to with great zeal by Acton1219, rivaled perhaps only by the trading deadline. That being said, I have a question about the draft process and was wondering if others had the same issue. It's something I've noticed throughout my experience with different levels of OOTP.
I am currently playing a Miami Marlins 2014 game. As in real life, I had the #2 overall selection. Tyler Kolek was not 1st round worthy, so I went with Michael Chavis instead. Regardless... My question is the following: how much weight should I be placing on my scouting director's recommendation? I fired Stan Meek and hired Theo Epstein as my scouting director (see my OOTP 2016 suggestion list regarding that). Epstein has solid skill levels, ranking "LEGENDARY" in scouting amateurs. Why, then, are his recommendations players that hold a 20-25 potential ranking? I double checked to see if maybe he disagreed with OSA's scouting report, but no, even he had them ranked that low. This even occurred in the early stages of the draft. I don't think I've ever followed the scouting director's recommendation. Should I be? Do they know something I do not? Am I missing out on a lot of hidden jewels by not following his recommendation? -----OFF TOPIC----- Incidentally, just a list of some of the deals I made during my first year: Preseason Traded Jarrod Saltalamacchia to Texas for Joey Gallo Traded Steve Cishek to KC for Kelvin Herrera Traded Giancarlo Stanton, Greg Dobbs, Casey McGehee, and Tom Koehler to Boston for Will Middlebrooks, Mookie Betts, Allen Webster, Christian Vazquez, and Jackie Bradley Jr Traded Andew Heaney to the Cubs for Anthony Rizzo (!!) Traded Justin Nicolino to the Mets for Eric Young, Jr Signed Octavio Dotel and Joel Hanrahan Notable Inseason Pickups Traded for Xander Boegarts, Madison Bumgarner, Kris Bryant, Jorge Soler, Robbie Grossman and Andrew Cashner in separate orders Picked up Edison Volquez, Chris Capuano, and Paul Maholm on waivers I finished 82-80 during my first year. My pitching was solid but my hitting was sub-par. I was actually leading the NL East through the All Star Break but then my team fell apart. Poor Chris Capuano had an ERA in the low-3s but went 4-16 on the season because his run support was in the mid-2s. ~Acton1219 |
