Confusion about league totals and modifiers
I am trying to set the league totals and modifiers using the pulldown menu for the year. Both the league totals and modifiers change, no problem here. If I click auto-calc modifiers at this point, the modifiers change, however I wouldn't expect them to change since the league totals have not changed. Aren't the modifiers based on the league totals?
Also, suppose I select 1950, then select some other year, then back to 1950, the modifiers are not the same as what they were the first time I selected 1950 (league totals match though). This is really confusing me. Like I said I thought the modifiers are based on league totals, so I don't understand why they would be different even when using the same league totals. I plan on setting up leagues which have historical teams from different eras and I was going to select settings and league totals/modifiers from a random year each season. But I'd like to understand what's going on with the modifiers before I proceed. |

The league stat output is affected by talent distribution. When you auto calc the game actually fast sims 2 or 3 years of data to fix the modifiers. Before this feature many OOTP players (myself included) took pains to compare league stat output from year to year using excel spreadsheets and then we manually adjusted the modifiers. I'm such a nerd that I still use the spreadsheets to check auto-calc.

The league totals represent the basic shape of the stats that you want to replicate. The modifiers are multipliers that get the specific league in question to try to match those totals. So the modifiers will be different every time based on the actual players in your league.
Load the year you want and then hit auto-calc and everything should work out fairly well. |

OK thanks. So basically the modifiers are based on simulations taking the league totals into account rather than direct calculations from the league totals?

Right.....if they were direct calculations from the league totals, there would be no point to displaying them or editing them.....
