September call-ups and salaries
I have seldom called up a minor leaguer in September unless he was already on salary, so as not to get his salary going before he is ready and needed.
But last season I tried this with one player, and unless I missed something, he reverted to a minor league contract by the time the next season began. Has this happened to you? Is there a general rule about this that we should have in mind when September 1 comes around? |

All the real teams call up prospects in September and play with a 40 man roster. It gives them a chance to evaluate talent at the MLB level and rest regulars. It doesn't affect their minor league status. In the game you can call up anybody you like in September as long as you send them back to the minors before the next season, or the playoffs if you're in them, without affecting their salary status.
