Playoff Tiebreaker
What happens if I end the season tied for the division title. The other team won the season series. Do they automatically win the division by having the better regular season record or is there a one game playoff for the division.
The other team wins the wildcard, but I want to know how the division is selected. Thanks |

There is a playoff game for the division.

Does this apply even if a bye isn't on the line?

Yes, for seeding and home field advantage purposes.

Weirdly, it does, even though MLB has not done so in the past. My current save has 5 divisions of 6 teams each, with division winners + 3 wild cards qualifying. I tied with the Astros for the division and had to play a playoff game even though we were both guaranteed spots. It actually ended up making a difference in the playoff seeding; my team won the tiebreaker and were bumped up to the #3 seed instead of #5. The inability to customize tiebreakers has always been one of the most frustrating things about OOTP to me and I'm surprised we've never gotten more control over that process. |

I once saw St. Louis, Chicago and Houston all finish 85-77.
The game scheduled a tiebreaker game between Chicago and Houston but did not tell me how it eliminated St. Louis. Does the game tell you why a team didnt make it in this scenario? If not it would be nice if it did. |

In fairness I don't remember for sure that I wouldn't have gotten the 3 seed anyway, but I think that's how it was. Three teams finished at 90-70, though; my team (then 91-70) got the #3 and Houston (then 90-71) got the #5. Is there a way to view head-to-head records for previous seasons? Not sure if I can check how the tiebreakers really would have gone. |
