Odd Free Agents Signings
I'm doing a multi-year hands off run through and I've been keeping an eye on the Caps as the years go by. It's currently March 2017 and I noticed some odd roster behavior:
Marcus Johansson - FA signing December 2016 (previously had spent 3 full seasons with Buffalo, appears to have been sitting around for first half of season) Mikhail Grabovski - FA signing November 2016 (sat out 15/16 season and first half of this one) Brent Seabrook - FA signing January 2017 (was in Chicago the season prior, missing first half of this one) Nazem Kadri - same story as Seabrook Am I correct in assuming that this is due to a combination of the crazy player contract demands and currently weak roster/financial AI resulting in rosters with bloated contracts and leaving top tier players on the street without a job or signing for peanuts? (of those 4, Grabovski signed for $805k, the rest for league minimum of $525k) I'm sure this is part of the AI work that needs to be done, just wanted to raise attention to it. |
