Former record holders of the last century
Deacon McGuire - 1612 games - Played final game at catcher 1912 - established record in the 1900s decade- held record until 1925.

Al Lopez - held record 1945-1987 (MLB career: 1929-1947).
Bob Boone - 2225 games - held record 1987-1993 - First player in history to catch 2,000 MLB games.
Carlton Fisk - 2226 games at catcher - held record 1993-2009. (broken by Ivan Rodriguez).

Top 10:

1. Ivan Rodriguez - 2427 games (record holder since 2009) -(MLB career: 1991-2011).
2. Carlton Fisk* - 2226 games.
3. Bob Boone* - 2225 games - (1972-1990).

Also does anyone have a photo of Katsuya Nomura? He has the all-time professional record with over 2,800 games caught in the Japanese Leagues.

Two Of The More Surprising Discoveries In Awhile...

These were BOTH in one collection I recently obtained.

I'd given up hope on both of them, but here they are: Mark Williams, who got exactly two at bats for the 1977 A's, and Dave Cripe, who started two games at third base for the 1978 Royals.

There's a color Cripe image from the Venezuelan League but I've never seen anything of Williams before that wasn't a black and white shot of him with San Jose in 1977.

Enjoy!

A Third One

This seems pretty improbable too. Nevertheless...Alan Closter with the 1966 Washington Senators and an image of him in camp in the same year with Cleveland.

Bobby Murcer

Didn't like the Yankees as a kid (or now) but I always loved Bobby Murcer. Was thrilled when he came to the West coast and I could watch him play against The Dodgers at the "stick" when my Dad let me on school nights. Still remember the hot dog wrappers blowing along the chain link outfield fence. This is the best image I have seen of him. I would love one similar in the home uniform if anyone has one.

Harry Simpson - Yankees

Its hard to believe that there do not seem to be any color photos (non-head shots) of Harry Simpson with the Yankees. If there is one out there, I would be obliged. If not, a high resolution black and white could be colorized. Thanks

Thanks for the great story. It is such memories that make us all fans and those memories are for life. Here are a couple of Bobby Murcer with the Giants in 1976. From all that I know about him, he was a wonderful person.

Joe Lake 1908 UNI Tigers

About two years ago I misidentified Ossie Vitt as Joe Lake in this post (which I've since corrected). Here is the real Joe Lake.

Thanks to bmarlowe for pointing out my error.
