Looking for 60's Cardinal farmhands
I'm looking for photo of Cards '68 number one draft pick Butch Hairston. Injuries it appears limited him to 280 games over a 5 year minor league career. Never made it out of A ball. I found his obituary and a photo of Hairston in later years. It seems his many academic accomplishments and career accomplishments made his baseball life a footnote.
Also I am searching for one of my favorite almost Cardinals , OF Rogers Robinson. I love the name and I am intrigued by his minor league stats.A .298 hitter with power and speed. Did he not have not talent to play at the upper levels or did the Cardinals never give him enough AAA at bats to prove himself? As a lifelong Cardinals fan I wish he at least could have had a cup of coffee. If I may ask for one more possibility: 3B Quique Rivera who unlike Coco Laboy , never got a look. |

The "Other" Joe Morgan is also known as Walpole Joe, as he lives in Walpole, MA. At least that's what his good friend, and Red Sox radio broadcaster, Joe Castiglione likes to call him. When he was a younger man, Joe used to drive a snowplow for the Commonwealth of Mass. during the winter.

Butch Hairston
Here are two photos of Hairston. The one on the left is from the Dayton (OH) Journal of June 20, 1968. The one on the right is from the Dayton Daily News of June 7, 1968.

Rogers Robinson
From 1964 Tulsa Oilers team photo. A bit blurry, but best I can do.

Quique Rivera
The photo on the left shows Rivera with the Arkansas Travelers, though it does not depict his face very clearly. It is from the Shreveport Times of July 27, 1968. The photo on the right is from a website which communicates only in Spanish. I think the website is saying that Rivera has been honored by being elected to the Gallery of the Immortals of Sport in Ponce, Puerto Rico. His uniform seems to be that of the Ponce Lions (Leones).
https://www.baseball-reference.com/r...d=rivera001enr P.S. Found an improved photo of him with the Arkansas Travelers. It's from the Arkansas Gazette of April 18, 1966, and is added below. Last edited by Cusick; 05-01-2019 at 09:49 AM. Reason: Add P.S. |

Quency Hill
The photo on the left is currently for sale on eBay by The Topps Vault under the name Randy Hill. To my knowledge, there was no such minor leaguer in the White Sox system around 1978. Instead it is pitcher Quency Hill, who was a non-roster invitee with the ChiSox that year. The image on the right is Quency's 1982 TCMA baseball card with the Quad City Cubs. It can be seen that the faces match.
Quency made spring appearances with two other major league teams. He was on the spring roster of the Phillies in 1975 and 1976, and was an NRI with them in 1974. He was a non-roster invitee with the Dodgers in 1977. As indicated in his B-R.com record, his formal name is Randall Quency Hill, which must be where the Topps Vault folks got the "Randy" designation from. https://www.baseball-reference.com/r...d=hill--001ran |

I am hoping to find a pic of an excellent minor league first baseman from the late 60' and early 70's Don Anderson. In eleven seasons he played in the Reds, Orioles, White Sox, Indians and Angels organizations hitting .308 . Also another 4 years in the Mexican league. In '69 as an older AA player he hit .324 for Asheville with 100 RBI's. Then hit .285 in AAA the following year but never a cup of coffee for this Long Beach State alum. I have always been interested in players like this who never got there chance. Looking at Don Anderson's numbers, all he ever did was hit.

Don Anderson
This shot shows him with the Asheville Tourists in 1969.
Anderson did get a couple of try-outs at the major league level. He was on the Angels' spring roster in 1966 and he was a non-roster invitee with the Reds in 1970. https://www.baseball-reference.com/r...d=anders010don |
