Two different types of games. Strat is a great replay game but thats it. I used to love strat o matic before I was introduced to OOTP.

Yeah it occupies a tiny niche inside a niche. Replay games are useless to me.

The guys at Strat announced that they'll be simming the 2020 season and posting game results each day, it looks like it worked as far as getting them some free publicity. That's why they've been "in the news" lately.

Used to get cards every year, then PC game, but had to buy individual seasons if you wanted any other. THEN.....Season Ticket, then the rest is OOTP History...I still have original boxes & PC Disk of Strat-O-Matic games. Useless as tits on a boar hog |

I guess there's nothing wrong with straight-up replay games. But as N approaches infinity all outcomes will happen, so really what's the point?

There was a time when all there was were cards, dice, recipe cards (yes each of my players stats were kept on these), and notebooks. Borrow Mom's typewriter and I could even have a stat page

I remember those days. I have played Strat O Matic, APBA, pursue the pennant all great games before Computer games were a thing. There was something satisfying when you had to fumble through cards to make your lineups, roll the dice, and record the outcomes in a notebook. The best part when the games moved to the computer was no longer having to do stats by hand. Very time consuming. These were all replay games because, they were based on tabletop games, and it just was not possible to make a game like OOTP back then. The beauty of OOTP is you can play it anyway you want. If you want to replay history you can, but if you want to play into the future developing players, or even developing fictional players you can do that. You can play historical and let your world develop differently, or play a fictional universe like Random Debut. It is totally up to you how you wish to play.

Well, no
With strat-o-matic one can do things that can't be done with OOTP. Like experiment with baseball without a lineup. Allowing managers to choose which hitters hit at what time. And, I tell ya, it's some of the most fun "baseball" I've ever played |

Now list the things you can do in OOTP but not Strat. Which list will be longer?

Hmm. I've never played strat. How much would it cost me to buy the game plus all the seasons in MLB history, the Negro leagues, historical minor leagues, hi-res ballpark photos, etc.?

(To a game you've never played) Gotcha That doesn't change the fact that strat-o-matic allows you to do some things OOTP doesn't, and OOTP does things strat-o-matic doesn't. |
