Dynamic Trade Deadline, Challenge Mode League Structure, Quick-Play & Option/Rehab Rules

I've been an avid OOTP fan for 10+ years now and am really enjoying OOTP 21 so far. Most of these suggestions are a few years in the making, so I figured it would be useful to actually share them with the community rather than just think about them and get annoyed when nobody reads my mind I apologize in advance for stream-of-consciousness formatting.

Allow us to alter the league structure in Challenge Mode - This is a specific issue for me, not sure if it bothers others or not. I know league expansion is allowed in Challenge Mode, but I don’t want to have to expand to 36 teams just to have the same number of teams in each division. Being able to expand to a 32-team MLB with either two 8-team divisions or four 4-team divisions in each league would be great.

Quick Play to Until Runner on Base and/or Quick Play to Batter Spot in Order - my main use case for this is when I have a relief pitcher due to hit 4th in an inning; if I quick-play until RISP, I could end up having the pitcher hit with a runner on 1st and 2 outs. If I put in a pinch-hitter ahead of time, my guys always go 1-2-3. While obviously I can go batter-by-batter, this would be a nice option when I'm up or down by 5 runs and really don't care to go batter-by-batter.

Allow rehabilitation assignments to the minors before IL stint is over (if this is how MLB does it)- For the life of me, I can’t find the rule, but I thought that players on the IL could begin rehabilitation assignments before their IL stint was up. I think that activating all players directly from the IL is very unrealistic (while certainly some players don’t go on a rehab assignment after a short IL trip, it’s pretty common for batters to go to a minor league team for a few days to get a few at-bats, and for starting pitchers to build their endurance back up with 2-3 starts in the minors). Maybe there could be some sort of fatigue-related penalty for a few days if you directly activate a player who has been on the 60-day DL without sending them on a rehabilitation assignment?

Enforce option rules like MLB does - I would like to see the game enforce option rules like MLB does (e.g. if you option a position player to the minors, you can’t call them up for 10 days unless they are replacing an injured player; I believe pitchers are now 15 days). I personally do my best not to exploit the option rules, but often get tempted into swapping middle/long relievers after a long extra inning game or a game where my starter gets knocked out early.

Improvements to the trade deadline - I actually suggested this in much less detail back in 2014! I have a few ideas here:
Dedicated trade deadline event/screen - obviously, we already have some of these types of tools in the trade block, ability to look at upcoming FAs, etc., but it would be really cool to have a screen that shows different levels of player availability.
  • On the Block are the players who are pretty much guaranteed to be dealt at the deadline, like upcoming FAs and veteran relievers on rebuilding teams.
  • Putting Out Feelers could be any variety of players who could become available if a team put up a really good offer. These could be the upcoming FAs from .500-ish teams who aren’t eliminated but are long-shots for the playoffs, players who will be FAs after the following season (e.g. Trevor Bauer and Marcus Stroman in 2019), or even overperformers who a team may want to sell high on.
  • Blow Us Away would be “surprise”-type players whose names pop up at every deadline. They rarely get dealt (like Noah Syndergaard and Whit Merrifield last season), and would require a king’s ransom if so.

In addition to different levels of player availability, it would be nice to see what teams are looking for in return. In the Marcus Stroman example from 2019, the Blue Jays would be looking for two top-150 prospects in return. The screen could give you a list of your prospects who would fit the bill, and allow you to craft an offer with those players. This would more or less be a “make this work now” button that allows for multiple players. ML-ready talent or dumping a player's remaining salary would also be useful options for what a team is looking for in return.

The last major piece of an upgraded trade deadline would be making trades less instant in nature. In real life, there is a lot more bidding to the process - say a team is looking for one of your organization’s top 20 prospects for an upcoming FA middle reliever. You know that this would be the last pitcher out of your bullpen, so you’re not keen on giving away anything particularly useful. It would be nice if you could offer your 30th best prospect in exchange for that reliever a week before the deadline and the other GM would sit on your offer, receive offers from other teams for a few days, and then come back with a yes or no a few days later. As it stands now, if the other GM responds with “OK, submit your offer and I’ll think about it”, it always ends up just being a delayed "NO WAY!". Of course, if you meet the team’s demands (e.g. selecting the two top-150 prospects in the Stroman example above), it would be perfectly fine that the AI GM would accept the offer right away.
