I bought more stupid **** for more money, but I think I'll pass on 700 bucks for a pretty card in an electronic baseball plaything.

Funny how buying just that one card - you would expect it to close every game for that price and those ratings - But it won't. Why would you sell it? Why not keep it? Only so much you can do with that many PP?? Seriously - it would be different if you could spread those points out amongst a couple of teams but you can't so your one team will have all those PP. You can buy all 100s but that won't help you win. I can attest to that!!

It must be tiresome to have to buy the max number of PP 6 times just to buy one card. By my calc, it's $571, unless you're talking about the BIN price. I think you could play it safe and just bid the minimum.

It's a silly price for a relief pitcher. I could easily understand a perfect Pedro going for that much, but not Rivera.

Why is this card listed under "relievers" instead of "closers"?

what year is the card? he did make his name as a setup man first, to be fair. I think he set the reliever WAR record or something. So might be in fact technically accurate.

It is a PEAK card. Rivera appeared in 1,115 games. He finished 952 of them. At his PEAK, he was clearly a closer. No argument about that is possible. His position on the card is listed as "closer".

Of course he is known as a closer, but just for arguments sake, an argument is possible though - What is PEAK? Some might say WAR is peak. I just checked his stats and his highest WAR was as a reliever/setup. Some might say WAR doesnt matter - but that same year as a reliever was also his highest k/9 (by a full strikeout), best hr9 allowed (insane .1), his best FIP at 1.88, and you could argue that it was even more impressive since he was pitching more innings, thus demonstrating more stamina/impact/etc.

So are you sure there is no argument possible? Im not saying its the correct argument, but lets not talk in absolutes when there is clearly an argument as mentioned above.

So i dont know why he is a reliever here when everyone knows him as a closer, maybe his ratings are based on the 96 year. But you could definitely argue that his "peak" was in 96 depending on what peak means to you. If you could pick any season of rivera and replicate it over and over, which one would you honestly pick? Id give the 96 reliever/setup season serious consideration.

Saw someone in a league who had this card. It had a 3.48 ERA last year. Blew me away the ERA being that high.

It's pretty much an automatic 90% win rate over a season in Perfect Leagues.

There is a perfect Mariano in my Diamond League:

6 and 1, 6 saves, 40 K, 4 BB, 1.14 ERA, 0.79 WHIP, 1.8 WAR in 27 games

Splits are:

122 Stuff 128
84 Movement 87
91 Control 93

Team is the Maddogs. Best card collection I have seen to date. His 4th string sitting on the pine could kill my team.

EDIT: Yeah, he has a perfect Pedro, too who I somehow lit up for 9 runs a few games ago...

These are high asking prices but is anyone actually buying these cards?

I mean for the asking price you could purchase several hundred packs and have a team that could easily compete in the diamond and perfect leagues.

If I recall correctly, Kris said that they changed the way they calculate ratings for the Peak cards. Instead of taking the best 3 year stretch of a player and generating stats off of those 3 (?) years, they are taking the best t3 years regardless of when they occurred for that player and generating the ratings for each area individually.

What I took that to mean is that his STU will be made up of the best 3 years of K/9 in his career. His MOv, the best 3 HR/9 of his career, and the best BB/ of his career will generate his CON.

If I misinterpreted this, I would be happy to be corrected. However, if this is the new methodology going forward for all PEAK cards, this represents an enormous jump in the power of these cards that will trivialize any other card set in the game.

I don't know/remember the exact formula, but essentially yes, the theory for next year and going forward is that the Legend cards should truly be that, legend cards. Right now, the way things work, legend cards are almost always worse than the single-season cards. We may apply other tweaks to them so that they literally don't all end up as perfects (or also make sure that we don't simply mis-label them to move them to be more common), but yeah, I would expect next year that the legend cards for players will be the go-to cards to use

Will every Hall of Famer get a Legend card? I only ask because every card that had a player inducted last week did.
