Real Historical Teams with Fictional Players Question
I poked around a little and couldn't seem to find an answer to this so I'll post new.
I haven't done a ton of historical simming in the past, but I wanted to try out historical sims with fictional players. Meaning, I am starting in 1901, releasing all the players, deleting them, and then filling the rosters with fictional players and simming from there with real league evolution on.
My issue that I have run into on nearly every sim (I've done 6 or 7 now up to 2010) is that there are almost zero standout players or seasons, especially on the offensive side. Meaning many years the best players in the league finish with 5 or 6 WAR, no 40 HR seasons until at least the 60s. It's like the simulation is sticking as close to projection stats as possible.
I had one sim where I had a bunch of standout players and the only thing different I did in that one was from 1935 to 1950 i turned off "Automatically Adjust League total Modifiers for Accuracy". Offensive stats got insanely out of whack, so I turned it back on in 1950 and then I got some really interesting players. I haven't attempted to recreate at that since except for in a single season then I reverted back.
As far as other historical modifiers, I keep them all turned on. Player Creation and League strategy both remain on in all sims.
