Benjamino Lazalde, RHP (Vegard Talotta)
Lazalde is a good test case for whether or not this will be a big or small Hall. He was the first pitcher to rack up 1,000 strikeouts, had an incredible peak, including a Pitcher of the Year and MVP with a 9.8 WAR season, and held a very consistent plateau with 6 all-star games. He currently holds the record for pitching strikeouts in a season with 221 in 1904 and his 9.8 WAR season is tops for a pitcher - even better than Cabedo or Avila. He retired with a career pitching WAR ranking 5th all-time.

But he's out of the Hall. First, he is more than likely going to be passed up by next year and be farther down in the top 10 WAR. Second, he just didn't have enough elite longevity. Compared to Cabedo, he technically pitched longer, but Cabedo really only had one lost season - the other 8 were elite. Lazalde had 6 elite seasons scattered with a few good or even pretty bad years. He was only a starting pitcher through his age-33 season at which point he became an average bullpen arm.

Chris Davenport, RHP
Davenport had one very good year in 1901 and eight good to average years. He made two all-star teams, won two gold gloves, and was a two-time World Series champion, winning with both the Rangers and the Pirates. He added a World Series MVP to that trophy case as well. Overall he had a very good and respectable career, but not a Hall of Fame one.

Aga Abdo, SS
In an earlier simulation, Abdo was the career leader in stolen bases. In this world, he just never got going after a very good start to his career. At one point in the early years he was the leader in career WAR, but his value tapered off very quickly in his late 20s and early 30s, becoming replacement level for four years before retiring. He made three all-star teams and played for the Royals his entire career. He was the first player to have 6 hits in a major league game, setting the mark on April 10th, 1900.

Career MLB Stats: 5099 PA, .300 wOBA, 92 wRC+, 86.2 ZR

Dan Sparks, CF
Sparks had 5 good years, but the league did not start until he was at his peak. He fell quickly off the pace and became a negative WAR player beginning in his age-33 season. He was a two-time all-star, a gold glover, and a silver slugger.

Arturo Arce, RHP
Arce made the all-star team and finished second in the reliever of the year award in 1901. He currently sits 9th on the all-time saves list with 224.

Jonathan Kinnunen, RHP:
3 time all-star and Pitcher of the Year and still only 28. He's a sparkplug with high work ethic, drafted 4th overall in 1904 out of UC Santa Barbara and has a 100 MPH fastball along with a curveball, slider, changeup, and forkball - all designed to get grounders.

Joe Hubbard, RHP:
The dominant college pitcher drafted 2nd overall out of Illinois is pitching even better since the last time we checked on him. He had a 7 WAR season in 1910 and finished 3rd in Pitcher of the Year.

Goran Williams, LHP:
Williams was drafted in the 4th round in 1903 out of Pitt. He was a 2-time all-star in college and has made the all-star team in the major leagues as well. He took a huge step forward in his skill level in 1907 which has put him near the top of the young arms in the game.

Bob Edge, 1B:
Edge was drafted by the Marlins in the 4th round in 1903 out of UPenn. He made it to the major leagues in 1904 and has played well ever since, winning two silver sluggers, one gold glove, and attending one all-star game.

Murray Gunnell, 2B:
The 1905 MVP and Rookie of the Year after spending time in college at Pepperdine. He was the 3rd overall draft pick in 1904 to the Yankees, has made 3 all-star teams and won two silver slugger awards.

Ash Ingle, 3B:
The top free agent on the market this offseason after putting together 5 above average MLB seasons. He played well at Florida State but didn't win any awards in college.

Ralondo Pantoja, SS:
He had three very good years with the Red Sox after getting drafted out of Illinois in 1903. However, he has fallen on harder times in more recent years and signed only a minor league deal with the Cubs.

Aiden Shelton, CF:
The youngest player and the only one to come out of high school on this list. He was drafted 1st overall out of an Oregon high school and quickly jumped into the major leagues where he began performing well right away.

Kadin Henderson, LF:
Drafted by the Phillies in the 2nd round from Arizona State, where he made an all-star team. He is a 3-time MLB all-star and won a silver slugger and gold glove.

The top free agent - Ash Ingle - signed with the Reds, so we're expecting them to win the World Series this year.


The Mets signed Pimentel to a 4-year deal, despite the fact that he won't return until August/September 1911.

Well this is a first - the top prospect in all of baseball is a pitcher. Chris Adams was drafted 49th overall in 1907 but took a huge step forward and is now the top prospect.


Even the number 2 prospect is a pitcher, and even more unlikely, it is a Brewers player. Ezra Siering was drafted in 1909 out of St Johns and got called up last September.


R.J. Taylor dropped from #2 to #3 prospect this year and did play the last couple of months in the major leagues last year.

Dave Sweet will be retiring due to a torn labrum injury. He was the #2 pitching prospect in 1901 and the top pitching prospect in 1902, but never could stay healthy. He did manage to string together a few above average seasons, but they were always cut short due to injury.

J.P. Avila is back on the market at age 39. He accumulated 13.6 WAR in his two seasons with the Devil Rays and finished 3rd in the Pitcher of the Year voting in 1911. He is still demanding a large sum but couldn't possibly pitch for much longer, right?


Josh Fowler has had an interesting career. He has spent nearly his entire career with the Giants but was traded to the Padres this season and was part of the World Series team. He hasn't been an overall MVP candidate, but he has been one of the most consistent catchers, right behind Dan McKee in terms of career value.

Top Prospects:
Aiden Shelton - He just won the NL MVP award and is on a great path early in his career.

Devon McFadden - He just won the AL Pitcher of the Year award and is on a great path early in his career.

Draftees:
Jody Hajek - The top draft prospect in 1906 broke into the major leagues in 1909 but has not performed well until this past year, when he won the Silver Slugger at 1B and made the all-star team. His hitting has been major league quality, but his defense is absolutely atrocious, even at 1B.

Carl Adams - The number one pick in 1906 has had a much better career, with a peak value so far of 6.2 WAR in 1910.

Joshua Wong - He was the top high school draft selection in 1906, going to the Devil Rays. He has played over 370 MLB games with a total of 3.0 WAR.

Award Winners:
Savion Deanes - The 1906 AL MVP really took a nosedive after his best season. He did follow the 8.2 WAR campaign with a 6.8 one in 1907, but then 3.3, 3.9, and 2.8. He strained his hamstring last year and spent most of his time in AAA.

Warren Powell - The 1906 AL Rookie of the Year has had a solid career, but was never able to replicate or build on his success. He's currently backup catcher for the Twins.

Mike Pohlman - The 1906 NL Rookie of the Year did have a few very good years in 1906 through 1908. Then injuries began to wreck his body, severely limiting his capability to produce.

Other:
Mario Shawhan - He had a 7 hit game in 1906 for the Plant Panthers of the Florida High School league. He was drafted in the 22nd round in 1906, went to college at Missouri, and then has failed to sign in the past three drafts. He is currently without a team.

Trevor Salisbury - He had a 41 game hitting streak for the Oklahoma Sooners. He was drafted 13th overall in 1906 by the Reds and is currently a backup infielder in the Indians organization.

Sam Byrd - He had a 4 HR game in AAA, the only one I still remember seeing. He did crack the major leagues for a handful of games but never hit a home run. He retired in 1910.

Danny Hanna - He was the top unsigned draftee in 1906 and went to Stanford and was drafted by the Red Sox in 1909. He's still in the lower parts of their organization.
