Machado for Bryant? Simple as that.

You're the GM of the Padres (on OOTP). You have an offer to trade Manny Machado for Kris Bryant straight up. Do you do it?

Absolutely, without a doubt, I'd drive him to Chicago. I think that contract turns Machado into a neutral if not negative asset.

Well just for some context, this is how those two have fared in my sim.

The context is vitally important here. As always

This version of Machado is a hall of famer
This version of Bryant has been pretty average for years.

There's also a $34 million difference in salary

In the trade San Diego gives up the better player (though Bryant was very good in half a year last year) for $34 million in savings.

A lot depends on the rest of the roster; the Padres' outlook for next year and what they do with that $34 million.

EDIT:
Didn't notice that the OP and the poster who posted the screenshots were different people

Just shows that context is important

I think I just wanted to point out that because Machado is "durable", he may be a better long term investment. I started this sim as a standard MLB QS with the Tigers. As you can see, I traded for Machado before the 2023 season. To be honest, I was trading another veteran with a crappy contract for him so was just hoping to get some production for my money as it was his last contract year. He had such a good season for us that my owner asked me to resign him, and against my better judgement I did at 35M/yr. I was sure that I was getting soaked on the deal yet to my surprise, Machado has performed very consistently and I don't think I can complain too much about how much I paid him. Also keep in mind, for context, that I use the "high-Major League realistic" injury setting which may increase the expected difference in future production between a player with a durable injury rating and one with a normal injury rating. Just wanted to post my experience with the two players to maybe show that it isn't as "cut and dried" a trade as it seemed the OP made it out to be.

No. Manny is better defensively than Bryant (as a 3b). Manny is locked up for a long time, Bryant has his pending case which could grant him FA and he will be a FA soon and is injury prone. Also i do want him on the White Sox IRL depending on the cost. KB will most likely get paid more than Manny in another year.

Based on the these versions of Bryant I would tell the GM of the Cubs, after making an offer like that to never call me again.
