Join the South Seas Baseball league!

It is finaly here!
The SSBL is a fictional 12 team league for OOTP 6. All of the teams are from the South Pacific region of the world. Each area raises it's own talent and because of this each regions has special 'talents' that they bestow on all players.
So let us get down to the nitty gritty.

Completly fictional league
160 game schedule
12 teams split into 6 team leagues
Top two teams advance on to a 7 game league playoff
Exciting 9 game SSBL championship
Financials are off and free agency is off
Trading is on and STRONGLY encouranged as you will soon see
League starts in 1946 just after WW2
Golden Era engine used with slightly adjusted league totals to create a little less offense and thus simulate a less professional style of play
If the league takes off then expect it to expand quickly
Rating scale will be 1-100 in every catagory with star ratings on. +100 ratings are possible but will not be shown
Sims will be one week at a time three times a week

You the owner get to do the following:
Create your team name
Create your own logo
Create your own stadium using a few simple guidelines
Give your players nicknames
Create your minor league teams

The types of owners I am looking for are those who will be very active within the league. Patience will be needed in large amounts. This is my first ever attempt at an online league so there will be alot of things I will screw up and get wrong. I will be co-commisoner in the league and will NOT be GM of a team. To perserve honesty within the league I will not be taking a team since I will have to edit players from year to year due to the constranits of OOTP.
Above all I expect owners to be repectful to me and the others owners in the league and have fun! This will be a very loose league and I expect to have alot of fun with it. Winning of course will be the goal but if you lose my goal is to make you have a hell of alot of fun doing it.

Look to this thread for further updates.
Feel free to ask any questions and give ideas to me.

Coming up next...the teams

Ring of Fire League

Brunei: Brunei is a rich nation which can afford to send its best talent to Japan and Taiwan for baseball training.
Who should take this team: Those who like a well balence team that is slightly focused towards contact hitting and finese pitching.
Just watch out for those injuries...

+10 contact
+10 Eye
-10 power
+10 gap
+5 control
+5 movement
-2 velocity
+5 Range
+10 Throwing arm
+ .010 fielding%
Every player is injury prone

Kuala Lumpur: Being a monk is boring for a young male, thus during spare time alot of the order chooses to pass the time and play baseball. Monks are extremly patient at the plate. Unfortunatly they are quite slow and their defense suffers. They also find stealing and deception to be wrong and will not steal many bases and suffer a penalty to pitching movement. They are also able to call upon their gods for that little extra bit of power to hit them over the fence...
Who should take this team: Those who love sabermetrics. This team will have a huge .OBP but will not steal you that many bases. Good hitting and lots of scoring oppurtunities to smart GM's

+ 20 eye
+ 10 stuff
+25 avoid k’s
+10 power
+10 control
-30 speed
-50 stealing
-10 range
-10 fielding arm
-10 movement
Every player is set to 'Good' consistency

Manado: Manado has excellent swimming and diving oppurtunities. The locals grow up knowing how to swim from a young age and many of them lead tourists on dives to many of Menados coral formations.
They have powerful upper bodies and good body control along with excellent natural edurance. Unfortunatly they do not spend much time on land and their hitting suffers.
Who should take this team: Those who believe pitching wins championships. You will have good pitchers able to throw alot of innings for your club. Run support might be a bit of a problem...
+10 movement
+10 control
+10 stuff
+15 pitcher endurance
-10 contact
-10 gap
-10 power
+1 velocity
no 'suffers' clutch rating

Timor: Kids on the island of Timor support their families by climbing the trees of the islands large forests to harvest the fruits and seeds that grow in those trees. To speed harvesting they must learn how to throw the products to those on the ground without damage. Pretty boring stuff but great for baseball! They are excellent fielders with good arms. Hitting takes a dip though since it would be quite unproductive to bash their countries main export with sticks...
Learning is a painful thing and they get hit with alot of the produce as it is tossed from the tress. They have good injury resistance and have learned the fine art of leaning into pitches to help get on base...
Who should take this team: Those who love good fielding. Willie Mays and Ozzie Smith might have trouble making this team...

+30 range
+.020 fielding %
No prone injury rate
+15 to fielding arm
+10 to control
+1 to velocity
-10 to eye
-10 avoid k’s
-10 contact
-10 power
-10 gap
+15 to HBP

Wewak: The town of Wewak on New Guinea is home to an odd local legend. It's origins have been lost to time. The legend somehow discriminated against the left handed thus making everyone who grows up there right handed...
The area is still very primative and thus most of the work is of the manual type. All of the inhabitants are excellent natural athletes who have found that happiness is bashing baseball as far as they can with homemade sticks.
Unfortunatly all this free swinging has played hell with their ability to take a walk now and then...expect 100 k seasons to be the norm instead of the exception.
Who should take this team: People who hate left handed people
Those who love power hitting and players who strike out alot will fall in love with this team. Shorten the fences to left and watch half the crowd take home a HR ball...
This is not the team for small ball.

Every hitter is right handed
+30 power
+15 Gap
-5 contact
-20 eye
-50 to avoid k’s
+ 2 to velocity
+10 speed
+10 range
+10 fielding arm
1 rating bunt and sac bunt
-10 rating in every catagory against LHP since most of the team has never seen a LHP
+.005 fielding %

Admiralty Islands: Arghh...there be pirates about these islands. These kids grow up knowing how to steal from a young age. They prefer deception and stealing to power hitting. They are also not that bright and don't make that great of pitchers...
Who should take this team: If you are kin to Ricky Henderson then this is the team for you. These guys steal bases like they are going out of style.

+35 to stealing
+15 to speed
+2 to sac bunt and bunt
+10 to contact
-10 to power
+5 to eye
+10 movement
-10 control
-15 stuff
+10 range
+.005 fielding %

Fair Winds League

Noumea: Exact opposite of Wewak. Some weird genetic disorder makes everyone on these islands left handed. A local game is throwing fruit and rocks as hard as they can at anything that moves...
These kids could probably throw a stone through the hull of a battleship if they wanted
Unfortuatly once the object leaves their hand they never really know quite where the hell it will end up...
Who should take this team: Those who get some sort some of perverse happiness out of striking out opposing batters. These guys will rack up the K's in huge numbers. Hitting takes a slight hit but just look at those K numbers!

Every pitcher is left handed
+5 to velocity
+ 30 stuff
+20 movement
+30 to fielding arm
-30 control
-10 eye
-10 contact
-10 power
+20 to wild pitches and hit batters

Vanuatu: Island are volcanic and local religious practices are centered around walking on lava...
Every player is extremly resistent to injuries.
Local industry is fishing and more specificly spear fishing. Players grow up with good accurate arms and they have excellent bat control.
Unfortunatly standing in a boat all day makes you a piss poor base runner...

Every player is listed as durable
+5 power
+20 contact
+15 gap
-10 avoid k’s
+5 control
-10 movement
+5 stuff
-10 speed
-20 stealing
+30 to fielding arm

Tonga: Pygmies. Need I say more?
These guy walk more than Robert Korzeniowski.
Who should take this team: People who love small ball. Don't expect many homeruns but if you play your cards right you will have your team lined up at the plate ready to score.

Every player is under 4 feet tall
Every player is under 100 lbs
+30 eye
+50 avoid k’s
-50 power
+15 contact
-35 gap
+10 speed
+10 steal
+10 range
-3 velocity
+3 bunt and sac bunt

Fiji: Sugar industry and tourists. Kids are addicted to sugar from they time they are small and to surivive they pickpocket the from the tourists who come to the island. Good stealing and fielding from constant sugar highs. Not much for waiting on their pitch though...
Who should take this team: Those who like hitting homeruns and stealing bases. Not a good team for high .OBP but you will get lots of homeruns and stolen bases from these kids. They also field well and put up good offensive numbers in my test sims.

+25 to stealing
+10 to speed
+ .010 to fielding %
+15 to range
+15 power
-15 eye
-20 avoid k’s
-15 control
+10 to wild pitches and hit batters

-30 speed
-15 range
+20 arms
+.010 fielding %

Tuvalu: An island full of shamens and medicine men. When not healing the rich people who flock to the island they spend their time watching bootleg DVD's of Sandy Koufax pitch. They shun hitting as too violent
Who should take this team: Former pitchers who had a lifetime BA of .028
Not alot of run support but they pitch like the bastard sons of Walter Johnson

+20 movement
+20 control

Looks very unique and sounds like a lot of fun. I'll depart from my usual team philosophy and take Noumea.

I like the idea of this league...and I also like that finances and FAs are off.

I'll take Vanuatu if at all possible.

Thanks.

I'm a little confused as to how this works. When the league is created, all of the players on your team will get these modifiers to their talent levels, is that correct? Or is there a fantasy draft, and then the modifiers are applied?

If so, then what about the draft? Will each island just get assigned players and then modified from there? Or will there be no draft. How is this planning on working?
In any event I'd like to claim Tuvalu. I have yet to get into a brand new league, and now seems to be my chance.

I have a super secert method for the orginal draft. I am going to close my eyes and click 'random draft order' 10 times and then click 'finish draft'. After teams are assigned I will go in and edit the players.

After each season there will be a first year draft based on W-L record. After the draft is done I will edit all the players based on which team they were drafted to and then the season will begin.

I forgot to mention. DH will be ON for both leagues. This saves me the trouble of editing pitchers hitting ratings and will create a little more offense for the league.

By the way, I'm going to need some speedy people and some good pitchers and good batters.

Done.
I was wondering when someone would take them. They were my favourite team to create and the team I always wanted to win when I ran the test sims.

Edit: Look over Brunei again and make sure you do indeed want to change. I have my notes all scattered about and I am having to make edits to the numbers as I find them and put them together again.
I am doing more testing too trying to to make these teams as balenced as possible. I will try and not mess with them very much but expect adjustments to be made to the teams you pick.

Awesome! Thanks for the quick reply Fallschirmjager. This league is definately going to be one of a kind. I haven't played with financials off, but this format will definately encourage even more trading.

Also there should be a bit more strategy involved with the draft process. I assume you could make up for your tribes positives and negatives by drafting smartly.

Well thought up idea, when will we get a glimpse of the website?

Thanks for the interest. Trading will be huge to your teams success. Every team will want what they do not have and you will be wanting the same.

What do you mean about the drafting. Do you have another idea of how I could do it?

I am looking into webspace as I type this. I ask everyone to bear with me, It might be a number of weeks before everything is going.
