Who Would you Buy?

I have 450K and I'm looking to upgrade my starting rotation. I currently have:

99 Walter Johnson
98 Vida Blue
--------------------------------
97 Dolf Luque
97 Dave Righetti
97 Phil Niekro

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Additionally, I am open to suggestions elsewhere to upgrade my team:

C 100 Cochrane
C 100 Bench

1B 94 Sisler
2B 98 Gehringer
3B 98 Vaughan
SS 100 Jackie Robinson
LF 94 Ruth
CF 100 Trout
RF 98 Frank Robinson
DH 98 Ted Williams

Bench 100 Eric Davis
Bench 97 Scott Rolen
Bench 94 Craig Biggio

---------------------------------------------------------

My bullpen is:

CL 99 Eckersley

SU 96 Papelbon
SU 99 Sutter
SU 96 Joe Nathan

MR 97 Kershaw
MR 97 Newhouser
MR 95 Satchel Paige

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In terms of who I am looking at, I am interested in 100 Roger Clemens, 99 Clarkson, and/or 96 Eppa Rixey. I am considering upgrading my Ruth to 100 Ruth, and/or replacing 94 Biggio on my bench.

I appreciate any help or suggestions you have for me. The advice you gave me last time I made a post like this helped me make the playoffs 10 seasons in a row!

You should buy an ace starter. If it were me, I would spend it all on perfect Cy Young.

Here's mine... 6 PotY awards, 2 MVP awards... park is neutral with HRs at 1.04 in recent years.

Pitching is the direct path to improvement, especially with that kind of money.

Have you considered platooning some of your players? This could further inform some of your purchasing decisions (or not, since it might even make since to insert Biggio and Rolen into these roles with the 2 lefty starters in your IF)

I've always been jealous of the people who have perfect Cy Young. He always puts up amazing stats and he would be the perfect Ace in the rotation. I just feel like overall, it might make more sense to get two or three still really good pitchers to improve with and make sure my whole rotation is solid.

I haven't really figured out what to do with Biggio yet, because he isn't really a step up offensively or defensively for anywhere on my team, he was just my backup catcher before upgrading there.

Rolen is my defensive sub for IF as hes >90 at every infield position. I could try to replace Biggio with someone that could platoon well in the infield offensively, but I'm not sure who would be a great fit.

Like you said, pitching is probably the weakest part of my team right now, so that was my main focus!

Rixey has been great for me, so that would be a solid pick (replace Righetti with him).

I would look at using 100 Jackie to platoon with Gehringer and get a solid defensive SS like Dahlen or Ozzie. Jackie could also backup Sisler at 1B..

I bought 90 Ozzie as a backup infielder to replace Biggio, and upgraded my Ruth to 100 Ruth. I have about 350K left now. I think Rixey is in that price range, but Cy Young is more expensive correct?

Yes, Young is 450-500K. Rixey is usually between 250-300K.

Thank you! Haven't seen either on the market yet this week so I wasn't sure where they were at anymore!

I still think platoons would significantly benefit your team. Gehringer isn't particularly good against lefties. This is easily covered up in his overall stats by how well he does against RHP. I recommend checking everyone's splits to make sure they are consistently performing up to your standards.

Try to buy the new peek Ozzie Smith. Instant upgrade to defense, batting and running.

Gehringer is probably the next place I was gonna upgrade after pitching. I was thinking either Hornsby or Nap Lajoie. Or I could move Jackie to 2B and get a new SS

I got the 90 rated Ozzie as a bench/utility player. Cant afford the new PEAK one. I'm still trying to add one Ace caliber pitcher (probably Eppa Rixey) and am deciding between a Nap Lajoie or Hornsby upgrade at 2B for Gehringer, or moving Jackie back to 2B and getting a new SS

Jackie is actually best at 3b. Peek Nap is worth the upgrade for defense and better hitting.

There is a Curt Schilling Legend and a Pete Alexander Legend for 480K combined.

That would be an amazing upgrade and you could move PP around to get those. That is what I see in the current AH

PeAk. With an A. You're not peeking at these cards, you're enjoying their peak performance.

Thanks for the input! Do you by any chance know what Peak Nap is going for? I was actually looking at his 97 card!

Funny enough, I've been watching both of them super closely this week in the AH. I thought about pulling the trigger on a 160K Pete Alexander but didn't end up going through with it.

How do they compare to someone like Eppa Rixey or Waite Hoyt?

Not sure about costs? It's a hard find. The record breaker NAP has poor eye and avoid K's so he does not get on base often enough. Plus he's a defense liability unless you move him to 1st.

Peak NAP is a spray line drive hitter with a better eye and defense and is a good 300 hitter with a 350 OBA in a Perfect league.

Hornsby can be your cheaper better option?
