I know thread is mostly dead, but these are always fun.
Started as Seattle expansion in '77. Five years and a couple great draft picks later(Molitor, Kirk Gibson, Trammel, Valenzuela, and Saberhagen) I was in the WS, and two years later finally won it. Now its 1993, and after a painful 80's, the Mariners are back in it. 1. 2B Delino Deshields(ROY) 2. SS Paul Molitor(ROY) 3. C B.J Surhoff(2 time MVP, biggest free agent last offseason) 4. LF George Bell 5. 1B Mark McGwire(50+ hrs twice so far, 1 time MVP) 6. CF Ken Griffey Jr.(Seemed doomed to Phi minor league system after two injury prone seasons, currently hitting .301, but just made his way to the DL for the next couple weeks) 7. 3B George Brett(Next to Molitor, longest serving Mariner. 10 Time All Star) 8. RF Matt Stairs 9. DH Tony Gwynn Sr. A lot of big names, but not the production you'd expect. Now onto the hurlers, where the team really shines. SP Greg Maddux(1 Time Cy Young Winner) SP Kevin Brown(after a disaterous season as a reliever, Brown seemed doomed to a career in the minors, till an injury to Brett Saberhagen meant an empty slot. Since then Brown has won 20+ games 3 times. SP Fernando Valenzuela( 2 Time Cy Young) SP David Cone SP Pedro Martinez CL Rod Beck EDIT: Just moments after posting this, Greg Maddux threw the first No Hitter in Seattle history. K'ing 9 and walking just 1. Last edited by Sinfulrain; 01-12-2012 at 01:37 AM. |
