So, Sox fans are pissed at Johhny Damon because Red Sox management didn't want to re-sign him?

I think it's more him signing with the enemy that makes them pissed off. But it's a business, and Damon sold himself for his highest worth, which is what he should do.

I'd say that's a fairly accurate assessment.

Dang I hate when someone posts something before I can... This was SO obvious a response..

Since the curse is gone, you would think that the Red Sox faithful would join the 20th century and all... it is asking too much for them to join us all in 2006, so last century might be doable right?

Babe Ruth is dead, so is the curse. Time to join the rest of us!

I do sort of wonder, even from a purely mercenary point of view, whether guaranteeing his being seen as a hero in Boston might have been worth more over the course of his retirement than the extra $12 million he's getting by switching teams. I dunno.

He can be a hero in New York now, perhaps?

Since idiot Yankee fans outnumber even idiot Red Sox fans, it's a fair bet that if the Yankees win a World Series in the next year or two, Damon will be given the majority of credit for it.

I still don't see the Yankees winning a lot of titles. Steinbrenner still doesn't understand the minors and still goes for the quick fix. I mean the Mets are better this year, so to compete against the crosstown rivals, but to make the team a real dynasty again, they have to develop some of that talent don't you think?

If they keep making the playoffs, they'll win another World Series eventually. I don't think people realize just how much of a crapshoot the postseason is in baseball.

As to whether they'll keep making the playoffs, who knows? They certainly need to develop some homegrown talent again at some point -- something better than Chien-Ming Wang and Robinson Cano. The fact that Cano and Wang are on the Yankees' roster instead of being traded to some other team last season is a good sign, though.

He could, but do you really see him emerging as nearly as big a hero in New York after four years in his decline phase than he would have been after eight in Boston?

Far more likely is that after his performance declines he'll be remembered by Yankee fans as a guy who played for a few seasons, but not as a real key to whatever team success the Yankees have in the next few seasons. I doubt he'll ever be all that beloved in New York.

Hughes and Duncan could be what they have been waiting for...assuming they dont trade it off in their neverending search for starting pitching for someone like Gill Meche or Vincente Padilla.
