Minnie Minoso

NOVEMBER 29: Depending on what version you believe of the birth of Orestes Saturnino "MINNIE' MINOSO, TODAY WOULD HAVE BEEN HIS 93RD TO 96TH BIRTHDAY. He is still a leading candidate for the Baseball Hall Of Fame, after a great combined Negro Leagues and Major leagues career. He was still living in December 2014 when his HOF era last came up for election, but he died early in 2015 , less than three months later. This card depicts him with the Negro Leagues team The New York Cubans, who Minoso led to the Negro Leagues title in 1947. Statistically it can be proven that over Minoso's first 11 full seasons in the major leagues (1951 to 1961, where he was an all-star for seven years. He had been selected to and played in the Negro Leagues East Vs. West all-star games of 1946 through -1948 as well). Minnie had few equals among American League position players with his rare combination of hitting for average, power (some what handicapped by playing in the Chicago White Sox's Comiskey Park, one of the largest parks in major league baseball where his career high was only 24 home runs, but he was an American League Doubles & Triples champion), speed and base running skills (Triples and 3 Stolen bases league leaderships) as well as excellent fielding , winning - 3 Gold Gloves and there might have been more if the award had been inaugurated earlier instead of mid-way through his career in 1957. Minoso's career numbers in he majors would have been even better if the racial barrier had fallen sooner, and delayed his the big leagues stardom..
His 1950 to 1969 Hall Of Fame era election does not come up for election until December 2020 for the Class of 2021, which will be the first time he will be a posthumous candidate.

Minnie Minoso: New York Cubans (circa: 1947).

Minnie Minoso led The New York Cubans to the 1947 Negro Leagues title.
Today, November 29 is his birthday. Born in Cuba's rural Sugar Cane country where official birth
documents were scarce, Minoso is believed to have been born sometime between 1922 and 1925.

Dick Cole (1926-2018)

Dick Cole, a Pirates infielder in 1951 and 1953-1956 passed away on October 18, at age 92, but there was a delay in reporting his death to the Wikipedia list of the game's most senior living players until today. He ranked among the 40 oldest living MLB players until his passing. He also played briefly with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1951, his first major leagues team, and the Milwaukee Braves in 1957, but he was released early in the '57 season AND WAS NOT MUCH OF A CONTRIBUTOR TO THEIR CHAMPIONSHIP RUN TO THE 1957 WORLD SERIES TITLE. Cole played a nearly equal amount of MLB games at third baseman, shortstop and second baseman. He hit .249 in 456 MLB games. Cole spent the entire 1952 season with the Pirates AAA - Pacific Coast League farm team, The Hollywood Stars.
He was one of the few 1950s players who always wore glasses. In all of his baseball cards: "The Bespectacled One" is seen posing wearing eyeglasses.
(Topps 1954 & 1957 and Bowman 1954 & 1955).

Bobby Trevino a member of the 1968 Angels passed away at the age of 73

https://www.diariodemexico.com/falle...dad-de-70-años

Here is a loose translation of the link: Guadalajara Jalisco; November 5, 2018 (LMP Media) .- Mexican baseball is in mourning once again, after the notable death on Wednesday of former outfielder Carlos "Bobby" Treviño.
Carlos Treviño was born in Monterrey, Nuevo León, on August 15, 1948.
"Bobby" Treviño, who like his brother Alex managed to play in Major League Baseball, debuted in the "Grand Tent" with the California Angels on May 22, 1968.
In 17 games that managed to see action in his only season in the Major Leagues, Treviño had a .225 batting average, product of 9 hits in 40 at-bats, with one career produced.
Within the Mexican Pacific League, "Bobby" Treviño played for 14 seasons with the teams of Mayos de Navojoa (1964-66), Cañeros de Los Mochis (1966-1973), having a brief pass through Hermosillo Naranjeros (1967) , returned to Navojoa (1973-1976), ending with Venados de Mazatlán (1976-1978).
In those 14 campaigns, Treviño left a batting average of .269, with 63 homers connected and 400 runs produced, also adding 297 runs and 55 steals, that is 894 games.
Carlos Treviño was the first player to connect three home runs in a game of nine innings in the LMP, this he did with the Cañeros de Los Mochis, on December 31, 1968, against the Yaquis de Obregón, in the Álvaro Obregón stadium.

Cesar Hernandez

His leadoff position will probably go to the Phillies' newly acquired Jean Segura, a better contact hitter and a hitter whose batting average has topped .300 the last three seasons. Hernandez could bat right behind Segura in the number two position or be moved as far down the lineup as hitting seventh or eighth.

Bob Sadowski of the Braves and Red Sox passed away at the age of 80

Note this was reported by baseball reference and confirmed through several different sites. The last photo is a custom 16x20 that I had made for Bob. We had talked on the phone and he was so proud that he and his two brothers all made it to the Majors. I surprised him with this and he loved it.
