Wild Card Bug?

Even though i'm pretty hyped about OOTP 16, i continued my fictional league (with 2 subleagues, 3 divisions and 5 teams per division) in OOTP 14 (i know this is the 15-forum, but the problem should be the same). So, the regular season was over and within the wild card race Seattle, Phoenix and Los Angeles all had a 88-74 record. Since Seattle somehow managed to be on first place for wild card, OOTP scheduled a knockout-game between Phoenix and Los Angeles. Phoenix won, so the wild card standings looked like the following:

Even though Los Angeles lost and now had a lower winning percentage, both Phoenix and Los Angeles moved forward into the playoffs while Seattle was eliminated (especially frustrating, since this could have been the first playoffs for Seattle since 2013 ). So Phoenix and LA will now play for the wild card. Did i just miss something about tiebreaking-rules or is this really some kind of bug?

Thanks in advance!

Lots of posts about this. There was clearly a wild card game in here somewhere and the tiebreaker caused that to happen. You have to basically be vigilant enough to edit your tiebreaker games if you want the game to do it correctly. OOTP doesn't use MLB rules to schedule post-season situations, so it's possible it gets it wrong like in your scenario.

There was a three-way tie for the two wild card spots and OOTP could not resolve the situation correctly.

What should have happened in real life according to MLB's rules is that the three clubs would have been designated as A, B, or C depending on their relative head-to-head records. The games would then be as follows.

Day 1: B at A (winner is one wild card qualifier; loser plays on day 2)
Day 2: C at A/B (winner is other wild card qualifier; loser eliminated)

In terms of ranking the wild card clubs surviving the tie-breaking process, that would be done based on their records as of the end of the regular season, thus excluding any tie-breaking games. As the clubs would in that case have identical records, non-game tie-breaking steps are used to resolve the seeding tie.
