HOF worthy???

Personally I think he is, but HOF monitor doesn't... If we except his last season he had some good stats even if he won only one "pitcher of the year" award...

Al Spalding, Dick McBride and Bobby Mathews are the only players who did reach the HOF for the first 17 years.

What do you think? worthy or not...

I am going to assume the Dick and Bobby are in "Your HOF", and if that is so, based on all of the previous seasons (or era) is he in the top 0.5% of wins, era, k's (I haven't gotten quite that far in the real world to know, still stuck in the early 70's )?

In my opinion, based on the dead ball era, he is a worthy candidate. The key is what are your requirements for that era. Not today's, or the 50's. Folks want to compare a 1870's/80's pitcher to Randy Johnson or Sandy Koufax and that is just not fair. A whole different ballgame and to be honest, a different world.

But, based on the four players you mentioned, if Al is in (and I honestly think his induction is based on his off the field contributions more than his on the field, but that is another conversation) then Jim is a serious consideration, if not a, HOFer.

I'm in a 19th century simulation (currently in 89) using the real MLB (only difference is that I start the NL in 71 in place of 77, to be more precise the NA was the NL beginning). McBride was inducted in 77, Spalding in 79 and Matthews in 1887. McBride won the "Pitcher of the Year" Award one time and one Golden Glove Award. Spalding won the "Pitcher of the Year" Award one time and two Golden Glove Awards, he also own the season record for the ERA (0.85), the number of winning games (47) and the winning % (.940). Mathews won the "Pitcher of the Year" Award two time and two Golden Glove Awards.

They meet the criteria of HOF monitor to enter in the HOF, so it wasn't my decision except for the fact that I accept them.

4th most wins all time. 2.18 ERA I would put him in. How many time has he been a league leader?
