Why separate T and OTL
Hi
During 87 years the NHL allowed the game ties (1917-18 to 1998-99) no matter the system of overtime. Then during 5 years they allowed the tie games allocating 1 point for the victories in overtime, then from the 2005-06 season the NHL abolished the draws by introducing the shootout. that's why FHM 6 should separate T and OTL, For more realism in the game. Thanks Michel Last edited by thim1960; 10-18-2019 at 06:41 PM. |

1917-18 | 1920-21 From its first season in 1917-18 through 1920-21, every tie games in the NHL that went into overtime was played until there was a winner, no matter how long it took. (W-L-T)
1921-22 | 1941-42 Before 1921-22 season, the NHL changed its rules about overtime. The league decided that if a game remained tied after one complete overtime period (20 minutes) it would end in a tie. (W-L-T) 1942-43 | 1982-83 Because of wartime restrictions on train scheduling, regular-season overtime was discontinued. (W-L-T) 1983-84 | 1998-99 Five-minute sudden-death overtime to be played In regular-season games that are tied at the end of regulation time. (W-L-T) 1999-00 | 2003-04 regular season games tied at the end of three periods, will result in each team being awarded one point in the standings. As before there will be a five minute sudden death overtime when the score is tied after three periods, but each team will play "four on four", with four skaters and a goaltender. A team scoring in overtime will receive one additional point in the standings. (W-L-T-OTL) 2005-06 | 2019-20 The league introduced shoot-outs at the end of over-time if the score is tied. The shootout features only three shots per team, and if it is still tied, the shootout becomes sudden death. (W-L-OTL) Last edited by thim1960; 10-18-2019 at 02:51 AM. |

I wish the NHL would eliminate the loser point and it would make the standings so much easier too understand.
The only reason they have the loser point is that it keeps the weaker teams in the race for a playoff spot. No other sports rewards it's teams for losing(at least that's how I look at it). |

Pushed to the extreme a team that would lose is 82 games in overtime would collect 82 points in the standings it's ridiculous, it gives a false impression of parity

what I would like for FHM6 is that if I give 0 points for a defeat in overtime that the team is not an OTL but a defeat that is not the case at the moment.

So annoying...
Every game should have three points available.
*Win in regulation = 3 points. *Win in OT or SO = 2 points *Lose in OT or SO = 1 point. *Lose in regulation = A laurel, and hardy handshake. This ain't hard, people.
