Adding teams to your league without using expansion.
So i made a 12 team fictional league, originally an 8 team league but i'm looking to add more teams but i'm wondering if i can just add them without using the expansion feature. My only reason for wanting to do this is not to dilute my league of talent. Right now i don't feel like my league has enough good talent to expand another two teams but i was wondering if it was possible to just add two teams in the off season, not using the normal expansion route then just fill the team with randomly generated fictional players. Is this possible? I would think it is but i have not had a chance to look at the game as i'm not home at the moment.

Yes, you should be able to do this. I did something similar in my fictional league; however, I did use the expand league option - I just chose not to have an expansion draft, and filled the team with fictional players.
The one issue you may have doing that is that I'm not sure how your organizational depth will work. Are you using minor leagues or a reserve roster? I was using a reserve roster, and only your active roster is filled with players - so the new teams don't have the depth others might. If you have minor league teams assigned, that might not be an issue. The other thing you may want to test (or at least backup/save) is the timing of your expansion. I expanded Jan 1 as I was afraid of screwing up any historical standings/etc before the almanac saved for the year. However, those new expansion teams then missed out on a good chunk of the free agent signing period - so you may want to play with free agent/winter meeting dates or expand immediately when season ends to prep for free agency. |

Well i was trying to figure everything out. I added a couple teams without going through expansion then added their respective triple a teams then added fictional players to the teams and everything looked perfect. The only issue i came across is that almost all the players that the game generated for me have minor league contracts. Obviously the guys in triple A are going to have minor league contracts but pretty much all the guys on the major league team did as well. If i can't figure out what the issue is there i can always just expand like normal then just create some good generated players and put a them on each of the new expansion teams so there is a little more talent to go around because as is i don't think there is enough talent to expand which is why i was trying to figure out a way to do it without the expansion tool. I might also try it your way and see if that works.

If you go to edit league structure in league settings, you can add teams without using the expansion draft. But you can only do that in the preseason and off-season I think.

Hopefully you already know this, but I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend making a backup of your league file before tackling any of this!
