Can I Revisit the HBP Tendency?

Haven't searched yet. Slap me. Besides, 6.5's out, maybe something changed, but it doesn't look like it. I remember some discussion about the unusual frequency of HBP occurence. I just finished a game where between two pitchers I nailed them 5 times. The first pitcher was rated 9 in 550 BF, he faced 26 and clipped 4. The other was rated, I think, 3 in 550, and faced 3.

Checked a few of the other pitchers on a couple of teams and ran across more than I thought I would of 19's and 11's in 550 BF. I'm slowing down now to do the math now, Spleen's watching me , if that is an expected number of incidents over 550 does 3-5% seem high? How has this been successfully reduced in the past? Simple editing? Or through League Totals?

I vaguely recall too many HBP or questionable ratings for their regularity being discussed before. That stat is something I have begun tracking for my regular leagues using the data from CommishJoe's exporters. A quick glance of the last dozen or so seasons I have simmed show mostly 40-50 HBP per team's staff per 162-game season, with a few years edging up well into the 50s. That was all pre-6.5, but I would be surprised if that aspect got changed for the update.

Those numbers have seemed reasonable enough to me. A quick glance at the 2004 AL & NL team totals showed an averages of about 64 & 59. So, there you go. Interpret those tiny snippets of information as you would like.

Of course now I glance down at the similar threads and recall (duh) that there is a HBP league totals setting. Thus I would figure that would help control the HBP totals if too many pitchers had per 550 ratings too high.

I tend to edit all the pitchers knocking the WP, HBP, and balks in half of what the game generates, especially in historical leagues, and then go to league totals and raise HBP so it occurs less often. I started doing this after seeing ridicluos number sin the 30's and 40's for WP for 1 pitcher. That was usually an entire team's output for a season.

This is good advice. It works...it is also a good idea to edit pitchers in fictional leagues, too.

That's a hard number to pin down because there are no reports that show a team HBP total. You have to add everyone up individually. I usually try to find an average for the year in real life and then try to get my team to be around that average. If my team is around that average, I assume the rest of the league is too because i would take too long to analyze.
