The youngest player on Wikipedia's Oldest Living Players Supplementary List (#s 101-125) is now 125. Foster Castleman (SS) (MLB career: 1954-1957: NY Giants, Baltimore Orioles). Born: January 1, 1931. In his rookie year he played for the 1954 World's Champion, New York Giants, although he did not appear in that year's World Series.

Don Newcombe (1926-2019)
Don Newcombe held too many distinctions lo count.
As a teenager he was one of was one of the Negro Leagues last new stars going 14-4 in1945, his only Negro Leagues season. He immediately attracted the attention of Branch Rickey who signed him to a minor league contract in 1946 where he played for a team in Nashua, New Hampshire at a lower level than Jackie Robinson, who debuted for AAA - International League Montreal that year.
He the was NL 1949 Rookie Of The Year with 17 wins and he started that season in the minors.
He was among the first African-American All-Stars earning All-Star spots on the All-Star game rosters, with the exception of Newcombe).
He won 20 games three times, while missing the 1952 and 1953 seasons to military service during the Korean War, which could have been peak performance seasons.
Newcombe just missed finishing his career with a .625 lifetime mark, which is 5 wins for every 8 decisions. Newk went 149-90 for a .623 career winning percentage. If he had gone 150-90 he would have been finished his career with exactly a .625 winning percentage, which is exactly winning 5/8 of your total decisions. (5 wins per 8 decisions). It may not seem to be that great of an accomplishment until you look it up in a source such as baseball-reference.com to see how many HOF pitchers failed to meet that standard of excellence.
He became the first-ever Cy Young Award winner in 1956 with his sublime 27-7 career best record. (Sorry, best of a generation hurlers like Warren Spahn and Robin Roberts, (especially Roberts who had won 20 or more for the six prior consecutive seasons, 1950 to 1955, before the Cy Young Award was inaugurated in 1956). Once again, "Timing Is Everything".
There were historic events in Newcombe's career both on the positive and negative side. On the negative Side. He gave up the 10th inning, 3 run home run to the Phillies Dick Sisler, in the season finale on October 1, which made the "Whiz Kids" Phillies 1950's National League champions by 2.0 games over Brooklyn. As the Phillies faltered in September, the Dodgers made up aa lot of ground in the standings and a head-to head victory over the Phillies in the season finale WOULD HAVE PLUNGED THE TWO TEAMS INTO A BEST OF 3 playoff for the National League title. Sisler's blast off Newcombe over Ebbets Field's inviting left field wall broke a 1-1 tie, as Newcombe took the loss in a duel between two pitchers- Brooklyn's Newcombe and the Phillies' Robin Roberts, who both had 19 wins to their credits entering the game and were looking for their 20th wins, (which Roberts got by pitching a 10 inning Complete Game).
Another historic loss came in a 1951 playoff game against the New York Giants, Newcombe held a lead into the 9th inning but was unable to finish the game due to blisters on his right hand. Ralph Branca relieved and the result was "The Shot Heard Around the World" when Branca surrendered the
game-winning home run to Bobby Thomson at The Polo Grounds, with Branca taking the bitter loss and the Giants taking the N.L. title..
On the positive side, however was Newcombe going 20-5 for the Dodgers in their only World's Championship in Brooklyn. He spearheaded Brooklyn's drive to the World Series victory over the Yankees by winning 20, while no other Dodger hurler won more than 13 (Clem Labine 13).
Then came his inaugural Cy Young winning 1956 season where Newcombe easily led all pitchers in wins ,despite a bumper crop of 20 game winners that year. Newcombe's 27-7 was the best single season total in 22 seasons (1946 to 1967), except for the Phillies Robin Roberts mark of 28-7 in 1952. Although there was a bumper crop of 20 game winners in the majors in 1956, Newcombe's 27 wins was still head and shoulders above all others, outpacing the following 20 game winners of 1956: (A.L leader Detroit's Frank Lary 21; Lary's Tiger's teammate Billy Hoeft 20, Chicago White Sox Billy Pierce 20; and Cleveland's trio of 20 game winners Herb Score 20, Bob Lemon (HOF)20 and Early Wynn (HOF) 20 ...and other National League 20 game winners: the New York Giants' Johnny Antonelli 20 and the Milwaukee Braves' Warren Spahn (HOF) 20.
Once again no other Dodgers teammate of Newcombe was able to manage more than 13 wins (Clem Labine and Sal Maglie had 13 wins apiece), while Newcombe won 27. The Dodgers needed every Newcombe win as they won the National League Pennant Race by only a 1.0 game margin over the Mi Newcombe spearheaded the Dodgers drive to the NL Pennant. Newcombe was 1-1 in the Dodgers bitter 7 game loss of the Series to the NY Yankees (3-4), that included Don Larsen's Game 5 Perfect Game (a 2-0 win over Sal Maglie). the only perfe'ct Game in World Series History.
Newcombe had great timing. From his Negro Leagues notoriety in '45, to his entry to Organized Baseball Debut in 1946, to his 1949 Rookie Of The Year 17-8 performance to this 20 win mark for the 1955 Dodgers that edged out the Milwaukee Braves out for the NL pennant by only one game and the Dodgers' subsequent hard fought Seven Game win over the New York Yankees for the Dodgers only World's Championship in Brooklyn, with their Game 7 win coming in the hostile territory of Yankee Stadium. Newcombe was there at or near the center of many historic events for 10 seasons (1949 to 1960, except for his 1952 and 1953 Military Service).
Let's not forget that Newcombe suffered the taunts and humiliation of racial bigots on his way to the major leagues either. Branch Rickey wisely moved Newk's minor leagues debut to Class D Nashua, New Hampshire in less bigoted New England after a league in the Midwest refused to let black players play for the Dodgers' Class C affiliate in Danville, Illinois, which was the level where Mr. Rickey had originally intended Newcombe's minor leagues career to begin just as Newcombe was about to turn 20.
Newcombe spoke up about many issues affecting baseball and race relations in recent years. Gone now is a racial pioneer and one of baseball's truly historic and heroic figures. R..I.P. Mr. Newcombe.

Joe Gibbon made his Major Leagues debut on April 17,1960 , exactly one week: after his April 10th, 25th birthday and went 4-2, 4.03 E.R.A., in 27 games, with 9 starts and 80.1 Innings Pitched in 1960, in his rookie year. He relieved in 2 World Series games (0-0) for the !960 World Series-Winning Pittsburgh Pirates.
Joe Gibbon's best career year was the following year of 1961. In '61 Gibbon went 13-10 with a 3.32 earned Run Average for Pittsburgh. In 30 Games he made 29 starts and he worked 195.1 Innings (IP), with 7 Complete Games and 3 Shut Outs

Lois had a short career in baseball. He played for the Cibaeñas Eagles in the 1974-79 season, being part of the champion team several times.
