Batting Contact vs Batting Avoid K's

So there are two different line items under Traditional OOTP Player Creation Modifiers called:
Batting Contact
Batting Avoid K's

What is the difference between these two modifiers?

Thanks.

Contact rating refers to the ability of the hitter to put the ball in play for a hit, while Avoid K's refers to his ability to simply avoid striking out (putting the ball in play). His BABIP, now awesomely included in OOTP15 , will change with both of these ratings, but his BA, and OBP will increase with his contact rating increase. In other words, you can have a hitter who is good at getting base hits, while still striking out a decent amount.

SORT of what the previous poster said. Contact is a combination of three separate skills:

- BABIP (which you never see on the main screen; however, this is visible in the editor)
- Avoiding Ks
- HR power (to a lesser degree)

As you can see, avoiding strikeouts is one aspect of contact but it isn't the whole thing.

The CONTACT rating is basically a batting average rating.

I remember this conversation from last year, a lot of fun. So Avoid K's must be a greater source of expected results, and Contact is the result of other information.

Is BABIP displayable as a stat for hitters, finally?

The perfect illustration of avoid k between two players IRL would be Chris Davis vs Edwin Encarnacion. Actually it is stunning how similar these two players are except for strikeouts and BABIP.

It seems that the huge difference in career BABIP (0.276 vs 0.335) can be attributed entirely to Davis' strikeout rate being double that of Encarnacion. Who is the more valuable player?

Yes, just go to the player page, click the Batting Stats button, then on the stats panel, from the View dropdown, select exanded stats, and you'll see the BABIP number after ISO.
