One thing that bothered me about other sites out there was that when you clicked on a link to a game generated page (ie standings page), the standings page opened and you were now off the league site - you had to hit your back button to get back to the league site. i used an inline frame to take care of that - now you can view all aspects of the league and stay directly on the league site. I've gone through every site listed in this thread and i'm pretty sure only one or two do this.

it's obviously a matter of taste but it seems to be more user friendly

Agree. If you don't like frames (which is my case) or don't know how to build them, that can be easily avoided by using the tag target="_blank" . I.e.
PHP Code:
<a href="league.htm" target="_blank"

I'm curious, for those that are critiquing the sites:

1) what turns you off on a particular site (colors, setup, pictures..)?

2) is creativity not where to go? Do you prefer boxed-in clean look to the page?

3) how much time would you expect owners to tool around on the site vs downloading the file and going into the game?

4) pictures, logos - how much is too much?

Just curious

Ok, might as well throw the AFBL's site into the ring. From what I've seen out there, I've taken a somewhat different approach than most sites. Comments? Check us out here.

I won't give my site big props overall, there's still lots of work to do, but I'm pretty proud of my banner logo and would put it up against any other on the web...
<a href='http://www.gross-net.com/ootp/gapbl'>Great American Pastime Baseball League</a>

Here's the smaller version if you don't want to go to the site:
<a href='http://www.gross-net.com/ootp/gapbl'><img src='http://www.gross-net.com/ootp/gapbl/images/gapbl_banner.gif'></a>

I would guess that league is dead (or just doing a convincing acting job of playing dead).

The iMLB is slated to start play on or about April 15th
What is the definition of "about"?

Ah, found the reason why on the league message board in a note from the commissioner:

Quote:
This is going to be a very solid league and I just want to make sure that I do not rush it out the door now that it has been made public. So thanks for your patience and I know you will be pleased!

Great looking site but what's the use if it is not functioning?

Iatric... how much will pre-OOTP history be considered (i.e. most of my owners have played at least five, and up to eighty-four www.whatifsports.com SimLeagues, many together, over the last two and a half years, but we recently formed an OOTP league).

Same layout as the OOL league.

Another familiar code.
You both could delete this remark freely:

PHP Code:
<!-----------TOP SPOT------------>
It's only a code tip I wrote for the CBL Commish to let him know where the Top Spot section begins. It has no importance whatsoever, trust me.

Same guy made them both. I think he actually created the iMLB first and then patterned the OOL after it, but Steve could tell you for sure.

I don't know if this is still going on, but here's my league:

www.thepostgamereport.net , home of the American Baseball League

I think it's an all right site. The press page template should be utilized soon, once it's finished.

Peace
John

www.hblbaseball.com

some updates (you need IE 5.5 or higher to view our cascading menus)....

1. check out the team pages drop down on the top left side - borrowed from cbl and enhanced. here's an example

http://www.hblbaseball.com/history/teams/yankees.htm

2. added a cool tab feature on the far left side to list league leaders, players of the month, and player development updates

hope these work for all browsers
