Blockbuster Trade/Potential sign of bad GM?

A huge trade occurred BEFORE opening day of the inaugural season of my historical simulation.

The interesting thing is that Boston took King Kelly with the 2nd overall pick in the inaugural draft, and Oakland took Babe Ruth 3rd - so Boston originally passed on Ruth, and now is trading for him, and having to throw in a player (granted, not a very good one). A little surprising that the Boston GM would change their mind so quickly (I could envision the Oakland GM really wanting Kelly, and initiating the trade). Note that Kelly is 2 yrs younger than Ruth in this sim. Maybe Boston is always destined to be to make a questionable trade involving the Bambino?
