The scene opens at Metropolitan Stadium where the American League champion Twins(99-63) are facing the Pirates the National League champions(83-71) in game 6 of the fall classic and the Pirates hold a 3-2 game lead on the Twins. Minnesota has their backs to the wall.

On the hill for the visiting Pirates is Frank Lary(9-9) facing the Twins ace Jim Kaat (17-8). Lary already has one victory in this series while Kaat has one loss.

The Twins struck first in second inning when slugger Harmon Killebrew drove a Lary fastball deep over the wall in left field and the Twins jumped out to a 1-0 lead.

But the Pirates would strike back in the top of inning four when Roberto Clemente beat out an infield hit and scored on a Bob Skinner home run deep to center field and the Pirates took the lead 2-1.

The Pirates scored again in the top of the seventh inning, third baseman Eddie Kasco singled to left and was tagged out at second when Jose Tartabull attempted a sac bunt. Tartabull scored on a single to left by Joe Christopher. Dick Schofield singled to left and later scored a bloop single by Donn Clendenon and the Pirates now had a comanding lead 5-1 and would never look back.

The Twins would manage to score only one more run off Lary in the the bottom of the eighth inning. The Pirates relief ace Jim Brosan pitched the bottom of the the ninth and shut down the Twins offense and claim their World Series victory their first since 1925 when they defeated the then Washington Senators 4 games to 3.

The win went to Lary who had a great series winning his second game and Brosan picked up his first and most important save of the series nailing down the final game. Kaat was tagged with the loss.

In the winners locker room after the game the Pittsburgh manager said after being presented the World Series Trophy “ these were a great bunch of guys” and “they fought hard all season" and our caps are off to the Twins “they never gave up and fought us tooth and nail all the way”.

Meanwhile, back in Pittsburgh the fans were going crazy and could not wait for their team to return home for a victory parade down the main streets of Pittsburg.
