Yes, I am using Windows 8 (64-bit) The voice I am referring to is an acapela voice named Saul. You can sample it here:

I believe it is lively enough to certainly add quite a bit to the TTS within ootp. Now, it is just a matter of can I get it to work. =) So far though, no luck.

I also have Text Aloud. To get Windows 8 (64-bit) to recognize the voices, I had to paste the following into the Run command:


%windir%\SysWOW64\speech\SpeechUX\sapi.cpl

Unfortunately pstrickert, I have tried that yesterday, but it does not show up within the drop down menu. I was so disappointed. =)

Saul is definitely expressive, isn't he? How about Queen Elizabeth? Can you imagine listening to her do the OOTP PbP?

That's too bad. I don't have the Acapela voices. I have the AT&T Voices that came with Text Aloud. Not too impressed with them either.

Yup, I did indeed. My version of the voice was higher than the 8.25. I thought I found the holy grail when I saw that, and was devastated in the end.

I did send an email out this morning and was told that this particular voice would only work with Text Aloud, and they offered me an exchange for a different AT&T voice. I, like you, am not impressed at all with any of those to be quite honest, but in the end, if this endeavor fails to achieve anything, then I will certainly take them up on the exchange offer, just so that $35 is not a complete waste.

Yes, I purchased IVONA Joey. Much better than the default, in my opinion. Not perfect, but it was worth it for me.

I really like some of those Acapela voices. The Old Man one, Micah, Ryan, Saul - all of those would be interesting to use with OOTP.

The ultimate would be to have one voice for each team in my 16 team fictional league.

Absolutely. So far, I have listened to pretty much all of the TTS programs available, and Acapela definitely leads the pack.

I have a number of various downloaded voices on my machine. For all the American accented ones, I can simply change my default Windows setting and this is reflected in the game. But if I use a British English voice, say, as my default Windows option, OOTP reverts to using one of my American voices.

Is there a setting somewhere where I can get OOTP to use non-American voices?
This is the code which selects the voice for the TTS in OOTP:

I'll add a flag to force OOTP to use the default TTS voice in a later patch.

No way, sorry

But in a later build you'll be able to disable the search so that OOTP will just use the default voice.

Not sure if it was talked about already but is there a way to better sync the voice and game sounds? For example, I know a double play is successful before it's announced because the home crowd will start cheering first. No big deal, just slightly annoying.

I know what you mean. Unfortunately, Markus has said before that he cannot change it. The same trigger (if I understand correctly) is used for other types of plays -- shorter plays (unlike a double play, which combines multiple text objects). It's hard to explain. If he changed the timing, then the crowd reaction would probably be delayed too long for more routine plays. At least, that's how I understand it.
