Who's your DONKEY?
Sadly, I'm not talking about Pronk. I get that people are mostly hush hush on who the best value steals are, but we've all dropped some serious PP on someone we just knew was going to rake. Who is the player for you in PT that seems like should be a beast from his ratings but just consistently disappoints?
This isn't an amazing example, but Bobby Grich is my guy on my original OL team. I transitioned that team after about ten seasons and had to scramble to get compliant. Grich was one of the first pieces I added thinking that he would be an immediate upgrade over Dave Cash. Turns out, Bobby was not exactly Cash Money.

For me, it's Jim Gilliam and it's not close. As great as his defense is, you'd think with his hitting ratings he could back it up by hitting .280. Until he proves to me otherwise, he's been my biggest waste of points.

Career .285 hitter for me over 10 seasons. All Star in Gold and Diamond. He's been okay for me I guess... |

Gold Frank Thomas has been a bit of a dud for me at DH. His ratings suggest he's a solid all-around hitter but he regularly sits around 100 OPS+. Maybe not enough lefty pitchers out there.

Gravvy Cravath. Don’t remember the year but the higher diamond one.
Had maybe one season over .900 OPS in Silver/Bronze. Usually low .800s or mid-to-high .700s. He’s useless defensively and on the base paths but he had pretty good offensive ratings for the lower levels. I ended up making a small profit on him when I sold him but he wasn’t better than other DHs I’ve used like Jim Bottomley and Don Mattingly (75 not 79).

Perfect Walter Johnson was a disaster! (Just kidding. Like I could afford one!)
Special Edition Eddie Plank diamond card was pretty underwhelming... Last edited by Cheesehead1964; 07-16-2019 at 05:54 PM. |

.267 this season. Seems like that's the case with every highly recommended player I go and sign. Might have to change my signing policies to sign people nobody suggests Last edited by Magus978; 07-16-2019 at 07:20 PM. |

88 OVR Johnny Bench hasn't exactly been setting the world on fire. I've had him for 10 full seasons and he's come close to the stats from the season the card is based on in only two of the them. And by "close" I mean within .200 OPS of the actual mark (.932). Heck, I've never even had him come within 45 points of his career OPS mark (.817, the best he's done for me is .769).
I know that 1970 was the best offensive season of his career, but this card is providing me with neither offense nor defense. No Gold Gloves, only one Silver Slugger and that was in his first season with me which was a half season, so it doesn't really count (also his only All-Star appearance).

Duke had 5 out of 7 seasons with over 100+ OPS, but for the most part I play him as a backup.

For me it has to be 100 Johnny Bench. I have had him for 3 seasons, averages are .243, .211 and .208, with HRs 5, 6 and 5, OPS .730, .642 and .652.
100 Christy Mathewson had a good first season for me going 9-0 with 3.24 ERA. However, the last two years going 6-4 and 4-6 with ERA of 4.34 and 4.83, respectively. How does one player have a few great seasons, then all of a sudden fail to produce?

Mel Ott 84 was a huge disappointment for me. He couldnīt hit in silver or even bronze, and I still donīt get that. I know heīs not for the upper levels, but for sure he looks like heīd be productive in the lower leagues, but not the case for me.

Thatīs thing that I hate about this game. I know, itīs basically an all-star league no matter what level, but itīs Mel Ott and Al Simmons for crying out loud!
