In the bottom of the eighth, the Rangers had a runner on first with two out and Stan Thomas replaced Busby on the mound and got Suarez to ground out to keep the score tied heading into the ninth.

The Rangers got a runner on in the bottom of the ninth but Burroughs grounded to third and the game went into extra innings.

Steve Lawson took the mound for the Rangers in the top of the thirteenth inning.

In the top of the fourteenth inning, Carl Taylor gave the Royals the lead with an RBI single. Schaal singled to load the bases with one out. Scheinblum then struck out. Patek drew a walk to bring home a run. Wohlford then flew out to left to retire the side.

Dick Drago took the mound for the Royals in the bottom of the fourteenth. Maddox scored on an error to make it a one run game. Harris singled for the Rangers tenth hit of the game. But Dick Billings grounded to short to end the game.

The Rangers committed three errors in the loss.
