Since you guys all brought this up, I had to try and take a look at it. I can't figure out what even does what anymore. Can we even get Questdogs great stuff to work? Do I really need to change 40 entries for The United States if I chose a 19th Century scenario? I don't even know what a Second Nation means! TOO COMPLICATED.

I might be wrong, but I thought all of Questdog's names had been incorporated into the standard OOTP names files, so there's no need to add his names files to the game - they're already there. That's why he isn't updating his namesets any more.

The only files of his that aren't in the game are his historical names files. I'm not sure how those compare to the US (Historical) nameset that was previously part of the game and which was replaced by US (African-American).

BTW, if anyone wants me to post that US (Historical) nameset, I'd be glad to.

If you would post that, that would be great. Doesn't QD have files for era appropriate names? I have a set of 1850's 1870's 1900-1950. With the changes to the world.xml and the outdated manual, I am at a loss to get anything to work correctly. It is very frustrating. I attempted to add a nation and got nowhere. Are there correct instructions somewhere?

Here is the first names file. I need to do some clean-up on the names file before posting it.

US (Historical) 39 First_Names.txt

His 1850s set (which may include the 1870s set as well) is on the OOTPMods site but the link is broken or something, so it's not available. His 1900-1950 sets are here. There are some other US historical namesets that are listed in my mod list.

Take a look at the instructions I posted for my Dominican names and see if that helps.

joe,

I have a link which I got from jazzrack back in December when he said he was looking for someone to take over his site.

http://home.jazzrack.us/ootp/mods/

See if you find anything there that you need or pass the word about it. I have tried, but been ignored.

I'll look at what you have, but don't be surprised if I PM you for help.

Here is the old US (Historical) names file, which was nameset 39 in the OOTP names files until it was replaced by US (African-American).

So joe,

With all the changes and challenges, as well as the passing of time, I have forgotten what the intent of the files you posted was originally??

When it comes to things like name mods, I take a decidedly Maoist line - "let a hundred flowers bloom!" Or, in other words, the more the better.

I don't know how OOTP's US historical nameset differs from Questdog's or Cooleyvol's US historical namesets. They might all be identical or based on the same sources or based on each other - I have no idea, and we the folks who developed these sets haven't identified their sources. So I'm posting the OOTP set because: (1) it's one more option for everyone, and more options are good; (2) it may encourage gamers to get into historical leagues; and (3) it may encourage OOTP to include historical names in an expanded set of standard namesets in future updates.

joe,

Maoist Baseball just screams needing it's own name set! I'd attempt to add it, but I'm not sure if I could figure out how to fill it with people from that region. But I do agree with you as I have not been hesitant about combining some of those name sets for my games in the past.

Can anyone confirm if the new patch fixed the update world.xml process? I doubt it because it looked like the staff is still on vacation.

So when my league is in 1903, the US is drawing its names from ethnicity ID #42: "U.S. (1870-1909)". When I get to 1910, I go to Nation Editor, select the language drop-down, and switch it to ID #43: "U.S. (1910-1929)". And so on and so on. So yes, I start out with plenty of guys named Harry and Jimmy and Red, and gradually transition into Josh and Justin and Darren.
Would you post your decade-by-decade sets here? Along with the pre-Castro Cuban set and the Central American, I haven't seen that in the past.
