AL IOVINO FW

Hometown - Swissvale, Pennsylvania, USA

1(1)-3-0

Iovino only had one win which was amazingly a third round knockout over the great Henry Armstrong in Armstrong's pro debut. Al didn't have much of a pro fight career, but I am sure he told his grandchildren and anyone who would listen in the bars "I knocked out World Champion Henry Armstrong".

TOMMY DRAGON LHW

Home - Esmond, Rhode Island, USA

5(2)-2-0

Dragon jumped to a good 5-0 start in the Northeast until he had his jaw broken in a fifth round knockout to Journeyman Manny Freitas. Dragon returned eight months later and lost on points to Bob Grant before hanging them up for good.

MIKE "The Fashion Plate" LEONARD LW

Hometown - New York, New York, USA

9(4)-13-5 2 NC

Leonard fought some decent competition including George Dixon, Jimmy Dime, Matty Matthews and Joe Gans; losing to Gans and Matthews on points (20 rounds) out pointing Dime in 10 rounds and a no decision with Dixon that only went one round before being stopped by the police. He came back in 1912 after a twelve year lay off and dropped a second round knockout loss to Billy Allen.

PATSY BRANNIGAN FW

Hometown - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

20(4)-14-12; 14NC

Brannigan was a tough Pittsburgh featherweight that was stopped only once in sixty pro bouts. His opponent list reads a who's-who list:

Opponent / Record Against
Johnny Kilbane / 1-2-0; 2NC
Johnny Ray / 4-2-0
Monte Attell / 0-1-4
Eddie Campi / 1-0-0
Dick Loadman / 1-0-0
Benny Kaufman / 0-0-0; 1NC
Kid Williams / 0-0-0; 1NC
Johnny Coulon / 0-1-0

Patsy also lost to Frankie Burns and Frank Thorn at the end of his career. With better or perhaps any management, Brannigan may have been a top flight featherweight. In his first 20 bouts, he fought Monte Atell 4 times, Jonny Kilbane 3 times and fought his pro debut against the experienced South African Yankee Schwartz. Brannigan had one fight with the world title on the line against Johnny Kilbane. The title did not officially change hands as the result was a no decision but the newspaper decision went to Brannigan.

LEROY BROWN LHW

Hometown - Charleston, South Carolina, USA

17(5)-15-8

Brown, a one-time top ten LHW contender, holds wins over Eddie Miller, Steve Carr, Bob Godwin and George Manley. He dropped a 10 round decision to Maxie Rosenbloom that was termed "unpopular" with the crowd and battled to a draw with Battling Dozier. His only career stoppage was a sixth round TKO to Young Firpo.

The master list on page 2 has been updated for the recent photos posted on the other thread. Anyone with a hankering to rate some fighters will get a hearty "atta-boy" from an adoring throng.

Thanks,
CONN

EWART POTGIETER HW

Born - Natal, South Africa

11(11)-2-1

Potgieter had a promising start, rattling off nine straight wins in South Africa and England against increasingly more challanging competition. His first loss was a ten round decision to Jeff Dyer in Holyoke, Massachussetts. Ewart then headed to the USA's west coast for a series of bouts where he picked up his winning ways again knocking out Dave Roy and Bruce Olson. Unfortunately, Olson died of injuries suffered in his KO to Potgieter. Ewart was perhaps effected by this event as he lost a ten round decision in the month following Olson's death and never boxed as a pro again.

DON "Chief Hawk" EAGLE HW

Born - Caughnawaga, Quebec, Canada
Hometown - Cleveland, Ohio, USA

8(4)-3-0

Eagle was more of sideshow event than a legitimate Heavyweight. He wore a headdress into the ring and was disqualified in one bout for dropping to the canvas and giving Kid Thompson a kangaroo kick to the mid section. He did however win eight of eleven bouts against weak competition while demonstrating modest power. A knockout to Richard Hagan ended the Chief's run.

STAFFORD "Buzz" BARTON WW

Born - Jamaica

14(9)-6-1

Barton fought sporadically from 1934 to 1943 both in Jamaica and England. Although he only had 21 career bouts, he did face some good competition; stopping Eddie Maguire, winning on a DQ by Eddie Peirce and losing to Ernie Roderick, Freddie Mills, Welsh Champ Farmer Jones, and Peirce.

ROOSEVELT BROWN LHW

Hometown - Boston, Massachussetts, USA

13(11)-3-0

Brown ran up a 12-2 record against local competetion in the Northeast between 1970 and 1972. He came back in 1975 to face a young Matthew Saad Muhammad and was stopped in the fourth. Brown took another three years off before stepping back in the ring to KO journeyman Jose Pagan Rivera for his final bout.

RALPH PALLADIN MW

Hometown - Washington, D.C., USA

30(11)-7-2

Palladin put together a nice career including a 12 round decision over Matt Donovan for the NABF Middleweight title. He faced Ayub Kalule and Edgar Ross well past his prime and pushed them to ten and twelve round decisions in lossing efforts.
