Awesome! I was so happy when the Seals finally broke through and won one a few years back... Felt so disappointing to see the close calls with the best hitter in the game on the squad.

Real life stuff: Horace McBride never made it to the big leagues. He played 953 games in eight seasons (1928-1936) in the minors, mostly with the New York-Pennsylvania League. He hit a career .339 with 99 homers.

Among the 17 spitball pitchers exempted when the pitch was banned, Doc Ayers was unique. He was the only one who hurled with an underhand motion. He played in the majors from 1913-1921. Ayers did not retire from baseball at that point, but pitched nearly three more years in the minors. He had moderate success in the American Association before retiring in 1923, winning ten or more games each year.

Real life stuff

Eddie Cicotte was one of baseball's most effective pitchers in the second decade of the American League but is today best remembered for being banned from baseball as part of the Black Sox Scandal for his alleged involvement in fixing the 1919 World Series. His major league record was 209-148, and while he was 36 years old in his last major league season, he had gone 21-10 and should have been able to pitch several more seasons.

Bill Kenworthy was a popular player and manager in the Pacific Coast League from the mid-teens through the mid-twenties, where he was known as "The Iron Duke", and was a star of the short-lived Federal League in 1914 and 1915. He is noted in some baseball encyclopedias as "Duke" Kenworthy, but never used that nickname during his bride major league career (53 PA).

Ewart "Dixie" Walker pitched four seasons for the Washington Senators. He was a year older than teammate Walter Johnson and was his roommate. After his major league days he played for many more years in the minors.
