Operations Sports Article on OTTP2007

Thought I would post the link here. Good opportunity to support the game with positive comments and a vote

Thanks for posting the link. OS is a good place to get the word out and with this review, and some of our posts, perhaps a few over there will give ootp a try.

It's funny. One if the things I regret about OOTP is that it's too advanced. I'd love to get my father hooked on this game, but there's no way he'd be able to figure it out.

I'm thinking about dusting off some old files to see if I still have a license code for one of the older versions. He'd be several years behind the rest of us, but maybe I could get him into it that way.

I really hope this is something that's worked on for the next version. There are a few people I'd recommend the game to, but I know they'd give up after a few minutes.

There should be some kind of intro/tutorial/easy way to play for newcomers. There are tutorial videos, but learning by watching isn't as effective (or fun) as learning by doing.

Great review.

The reviewer evaluated it well.

Go and register and post your opinion of the game.

I gave it a 9.5 out of 10.

Steep learning curve is the only negative in my opinion.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

That was essentially the review that made me buy the game in October.

How is your mate Mickey Mantle doing? Did you ever buy him Ball Four by Jim Bouton so he can read what his namesake used to do after games?

I've been a big fan of the reviews (and other articles) from OS for a long time, primarily because as an independantly owned site it doesn't bow down to the pressure from publisher's ad money. *cough* IGN, Gamespot, etc *cough*

Noobs should start with Baseball Mogul, I always say. Once they can't stop winning in that, they should move to OOTP. Mogul is like the marijuana to OOTP's heroin.

The article is factually incorrect about the arcade sports game/text game combo. Europeans have been doing that for a long time with their "football" games - they even have an EA Sports FIFA/text sim game that was (is?) a Championship Manager competitor. The name of the game escapes me, but it was in production way before NFL Head Coach.
