Contract issue with rostered player

Had an entry level contract player. At the start of the 3rd year as a pro, it wouldn't let me offer a new contract. Had him as being under contract to a Euro team for another two years while under contract to my team. At the end of the 3rd year, they "signed" him on June 30th and now he's off of my team.

Never got a chance to sign him to a new deal and he was never even an RFA in the NHL to get offers. Seems like a bug and, for starters, I'm wondering if this can be fixed? I can attach files or screenshots if needed.

Yeah, I'm going to need some more information - the whole save would probably be the easiest to deal with, because there are a few strange things happening here we'll need to check. Instructions for uploading the save are here, or you can put it on a file sharing site like dropbox or filedropper.com and send me the link.

And, assuming the save is from after he signed with the new team, I need a little more information about what happened before that - you said he was under contract to a Euro team while also under contract to you? That shouldn't be possible. Which team was it, and where was he actually playing last season? And how exactly did it prevent you from offering a new contract - it wouldn't let you offer it at all, or he broke off negotiations after the initial offer for a renewal?

I'll upload that for you and then respond again after it's done.

For some reason it had him under contract to me, as well as his Euro team. I drafted him and, as an 18 year old he played a season overseas instead of me signing him right away. I signed him the next off-season.. He played with my team for the 3 years and, during that 3rd year, there was never a "renew contract" option for him and he wasn't a pending FA on the team. I never had a chance to offer him a contract at all.

I noticed under the contract tab (and in the Salary Obligations one) that he was under contract for another two years but to that team. Once June 30th came, he became their property. It was almost like he was on a junior team in the CHL and, after the season, got moved to my NHL team. Only this time it was in reverse.

Ok. Saved game is up there now. Saved as Kings_Balerstos.

Incidentally, the players name is Tuukka Sahlberg and the team he's on now is EHC Ingolstadt. Looking at the history, it appears his contract was renewed by them before he signed one that I offered him and there was a "transfer" and now he's back on their team for those two years.

I'm not sure if that's what is happening, or the cause, but it also shows that his rights are open for the entire NHL and that seems a little off.

Yeah, now that I see the save I'm wondering if something in the timing of his renewal with ERC and then signing with you back 3 years ago resulted in the record of his German contract not being properly deleted and replaced with yours. But it really shouldn't be technically possible for him to be on your roster that long while not under contract to you - even if your contract didn't replace theirs to begin with, he should've gone back to them the following July 1, not stayed with you for two more seasons. I'm going to have to show this by Malte, I think he's going to have to dig through the code and see if there's some loophole that would let this happen.

Appreciate that.

Interestingly enough, if you looked under the contract tab while he was under contract to me, it showed the length/term/salary as being on my team and he was counting against the cap properly in the Salary Obligations area also. It just also showed him as having two more years tacked on to the end with the other team.

Yeah, that's the strangest part, really. It just shouldn't be physically possible for two separate contracts to co-exist for a single player like that - there's one contract field in the database and it can only be set to a single team.
