I am about to buy a Mac...

Hello all, I'm sure this has been discussed, but for the life of me I can't find the answer. So if someone could point me in the right direction I'd really appreciated it.

Issue: I'm about to buy a new Mac lap top. I currently play OOTP on an Acer. When I buy my Mac, will my OOTP league/game copy over? If not what are the steps involved in moving all of my data over to a Mac?

Thanks a bunch...

PS>I enjoy this game so much that if I can't move over my fictional league without problems, I probably will not buy the mac I want

AFAIK, your league should move over just fine - I've moved leagues back and forth between Windows and Linux without issue, I see no reason why Mac would be any different.

One thing, though, is that you'll have to purchase a new version of OOTP for the Mac, as the license isn't cross-platform.

Hmm, it really stinks that I have to repurchase the game...Is there any way around that?

And, please excuse my stupidity, but is this something that I can get done at the Mac store when I buy my Macbook Pro? In other words they will be able to convert everything over for me including all my ootp information, right? I'll just have to repurchase the license, apparently, in order to start playing again.

Well, technically, I guess you could dual-boot (via Boot Camp) or try running OOTP in Parallels and just transfer your Windows license. Boot Camp would be a no-brainer, except for the fact that you'd have to reboot to play OOTP, and I'm not sure how well the game would perform in Parallels, given the extra overhead.

As of now, there's nothing that can really be done about the licensing, as the plaforms have different licesning mechanisms (PISD for Mac/Linux and eLicense for Windows) that aren't cross-compatible.

You'll have a performance issue any time you emulate software. The Parallels experience isn't bad, though I'd spring for the native copy (which I did, I own two copies). I couldn't stand switching operating systems based on how often I use OOTPX.

I use Fusion on my Macs and it works fine; however, I have found that CrossOver is the best for emulation where OOTP is concerned. OOTP for PC runs faster on my Mac laptop under CrossOver than it does on my (speedy) work PC laptop.

With OOTP9 I used Parallels for a while to run a PC version of the game on my Mac. Game speed was decent. But invariably, I'd get a couple of seasons in and the game would freeze. When I rebooted, without exception the file was corrupted and lost.

Perhaps this was a glitch in parallels. Perhaps it had something to do with the memory on my machine (though you'd think 2 GB of RAM is plenty). Perhaps it was something with OOTP9. Whatever the case, the point I'm getting to is that I'd advise backing up EVERY TIME you quit out of the game when you play it on Parallels.

When OOTP10 came out, I just bought a Mac version and said to heck with my previous efforts. Now if I can ever get this Mac licensing issue permanently addressed, I'll be a satisfied customer.

Okay, I'm going to buy my MacBook Pro today. I

t looks like I will be buying the Mac version of OOTP just to avoid any problems.

In about a week I am going back to the Apple score to transfer my PC files to my MAC. My question is, will the information from my PC OOTP league export over to the MAC version of the game smoothly? If so, are there any special instructions I should give to the guys moving my data from one cpu to the other?

Everything worked perfectly. The Mac folks transferred my files. I bought the game again, loaded up my league and everything is running great.
