Player Ratings

Is there anyway to stop player ratings from changing during the season? And is there any way to roll back changes ?

I would think that you'd have to turn off player development in order to stop player ratings from changing.

The only way I know of to "roll back" changes on an individual player level would be to enable Commissioner mode, record the internal ratings of that player every so often (monthly, perhaps?) to maintain whatever baseline you want to keep, and then go back in and edit that player's ratings back to that baseline whenever they are changed by the development engine.

I've found myself needing to do this in Historical leagues, where I want a player's abilities to remain static throughout the season, but need the development engine on to enable training a player to play another position in the field for roster-related reasons.

I do want my minor league prospects to evolve. It is my majors I have trouble with. My players are well rested and not injured . Ratings are fine till the game starts then they drop significantly. ( I have built a team to break every (positive) one season record). So I don't want these changes. I've been playing Baseball sims for over 45 years and OOTP is the only one that changes ratings in season.

I believe this has to do with the talent randomness setting. By default it's set at 100 which will cause swings and some hidden prospects from late rounds over time. If you set a 0 my understanding very little talent/rating change over time but also will not see many late rounders developing. I would say do a test league and play with that setting to see if that is the results you are looking for.

But players do change in season, IRL. Baseball is not static. I'm not sure what sims you have played over the years but my own background includes quite a lot of Strat-O-Matic and Replay. They are great games, both in their board game versions and their PC versions. But they are built to do something quite a bit different than what OOTP is built to do. And for my money, OOTP is a more dynamic, breathing, living representation of baseball.

Now, as has been said by many around here countless times, it's your game, play it the way you want. And as has been indicated above there are ways you can manipulate settings to get closer to what you appear to desire from the game.

I guess my point is simply that measuring OOTP against games that have a very different philosophy/goal/approach is bound to lead to frustration and disappointment. Accepting that in its differences and dynamic and richly layered approach is where the true beauty of OOTP lies has been the key for me to loving this game above all others.

The largest reason why player ratings will change in-season is depending on AI evaluation settings. If you go into the league settings and change the AI evaluation to be 100% ratings-based, then player ratings should only change during the season due to scouting/development updates.

If you change your frequency of scouting reports to start and end of season you will at least be able to do this on a cosmetic basis.
