One thing that has been added since v9 is the ability to sort tables and this is done by a javascript script.
Do you happen to know if javascript is enabled/disabled on your machine. I realise this shouldn't stop the page opening, but it's another thing to rule out.

I'm having exactly the same issues.
daxl101 mentioned above that he has OOTP9 installed on his G drive. Same goes for me. My OOTP9 is also on an external hard drive. This could very well have something to do with it, because I opened OOTP8 (installed on the C drive) and OOTP9 (installed on the H drive) at the same time and used the respective "Open in external browser" buttons. Worked perfectly, as always, in OOTP8, and didn't work in OOTP9. Again, both OOTP versions running at the same time when I did this. How about you, BlitzburghBucco? Where is your OOTP9 installed? My system specs: Windows XP Home, SP2 Pentium 4, 2.26 GHz 1 GB RAM Norton 360 EDIT: Maybe I'm on the wrong track, as I am able to open up all pages from the "?" in-game menu just fine in an external browser. It's just the "Open in external browser ..." button that won't work. Last edited by Redleg; 07-03-2008 at 09:51 AM. |

The "Open in External Browser" feature is not working on some PC's. I have no idea how common this is, but it is happening to me as well. It may even be fairly common but since many people might not use this feature there may not be a flood of replies.
Q: Is it happening on specific screens? A: It is happening on every screen I have tried it on so I doubt it is specific screens. I have tried it on at least 30 different types of game screens. Q: What happens when you press the "Open in External Browser" button? A: The first time I try it there is a short burst of hard drive thrashing, then the following times I try it it feels like the command is ignored (no HD sounds). Q: Did the feature work for you in OOTP 2007/OOTP8? A: Yes, and I still use the 'open in External Browser' feature frequently in OOTP 2007, it's always worked and still works with that game. Others in this thread say the same thing about the feature working in OOTP8, but not in OOTP9. Q: Are you using a firewall or pop up blocker? A: Using Google pop up blocker and WinXP firewall. Some related info: PC: WinXP Home SP2 Browser: IE 7.0.5730.11 Game version: 9.0.27 Added as OOTP9 BZ#1687 |

Update - this is likely related to IE browser javascript settings as the OOTP9 HTML uses javascript ("sorttable.js") while OOTP 2007/OOTP8 did not. I use default IE browser settings plus installed the SUN java console for my own web development projects, so I'm not sure which java related settings I can change.

I'm having the same problem. My system is Windows XP, plenty of resources and this feature worked fine for me in OOTP8 (and still does if I go back to 8 right now). Just wanted to add my voice to the chorus of people having this problem.

One workaround I found tonight - I personally try to get the draft pool in an external browser so I can copy and paste that table to an Excel sheet and then assign values to certain potential ratings. Since the "open in external browser" hasn't worked for me in OOTP9, what I did was use the online report functions in the game setup screen to export this particular report. Then, I had no problem opening it in either Internet Explorer or Mozilla and was able to do the copy/paste I wanted. It's not direct nor perfect but it at least lets me get the data I want in that format. Since boxscores and just about everything else are available under the league reports, it would seem this would work for anyone trying to get their reports into their browser and can't get the "open" button to work on the report's page. Hope that helps someone.

Per Andreas:
We've not changed anything in the code which opens the browser. It's just the call of a Windows API function since OOTP 2006. If it doesn't work on some computers, I suggest to try the direct call of the browser exe: Add the following lines to the configuration file config/app: my_browser_exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe my_browser_cmd -new The path probably needs to be edited to match your computer. This does only work on Windows! It will open the browser program defined in my_browser_exe and add the command line parameters defined in my_browser_cmd plus the page URL. It will not use the API function "ShellExecute", instead it will create a new process with "CreateProcess". Has some other advantages, too. |

I'm Dense
Ok, tried the fix above...I think. I went to the OOTP Preferences screen and hit the Open Configuration Files link on the bottom. Then using Notepad I pasted in the following in the file labeled app:
my_browser_exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe my_browser_cmd -new Since the path here matches the path to IE on my machine, I left everything just the way it was. Am I supposed to change the my_browser_exe or the my_browser_cmd to something else? I'm a little confused here, I must admit, and it more than likely shows, lol. Just help me out a little in my ignorance guys, ok? Thanks. P.S. I use Vista BTW, not XP if that makes any difference on this particular issue. Last edited by beavcha; 07-30-2008 at 09:58 AM. |

If that path is the path to your IE it should work. And, does it work?

No Andreas, I'm afraid it doesn't. I get no response whatsoever when I click "Open in External Browser". And it doesn't matter which report it is or what page I'm on, it's all the same. Funny that when I click on Check for Updates , it calls up my browser just fine. I realize that is probably another piece of code altogether, but still.

On my system (XP and IE) I get a warning "Will not execute ActiveX controls on that page" when I open a page from within the game. Probably your internet security settings are even stricter. What if you set the security settings to minimal? You should connect from the internet for testing it. |

I've got it working now Andreas. I don't know why, but I had to move the -new modifier onto the same line as the my_browser_cmd like so:
my_browser_cmd -new Once I did that for and restarted the game, it now brings up my IE just fine on any report from any page. THANKS!! Good work again guys. |

I get the same alarm now that my IE is starting up. Weird, I never even CONSIDERED the fact it could be my browser security settings, but I believe you are most likely correct. I'm going to put the -new back where it was and play around with the settings a bit. I'll let you know what I discover, if anything, lol.
BTW, did I mention this is the absolute BEST baseball game I've ever played?? And I go way back man. I started playing baseball games in 1960 when I was 7 years old, the old APBA game with the card decks and the dice. I've played most of the games made, including some of your recent competition and you guys smoke 'em all. Keep up the fantastic work. Last edited by beavcha; 07-31-2008 at 02:41 PM. |
