Real lineups question

Do you think it's best to use the "allow starters as relief pitchers" feature when using real lineups?

Since OOTP is going to set a rotation and bullpen based on ratings/usage, etc., but the game is going to choose the actual starting pitcher, we know that starter will at times come from the bullpen. When that occurs, that team will be short staffed bullpen wise if starting pitcher are locked out of the occasional relief appearance.

I'm playing 1954 and almost every starter in the league had a few relief appearances during the year along with their starts.

How many relief pitchers do teams carry? Correct me if I am wrong but I do not believe teams used very many relief pitchers in a game in 1954. Usually 1 or 2?

I probably would not allow starters, the 4 or 5 in the rotation, to be used as relief. I like seeing all my relief pitchers get at least a few innings. I would not like to see a dominant starter also become a dominant relief pitcher. Just my opinion.

Not sure a starter would ever become a dominant reliever though. Thinking they would simply get a few games in relief here or there. For example if you look at the 1954 MVP voting, Bob Lemon and Early Wynn are the top two vote getting pitchers. Lemon pitched in 36 games that year starting 33. Wynn pitched in 40 games, starting 36. I think the game defaults to 4 relievers in 1954 and I think I may have upped that to 5. I will probably finish this season as is and decide what to do next year when I see the results. I'm in July. Trying a new method in which I sim to July 1st and then start watching every game from that point on.

Looks like the game takes care of this on its own and there is no need to change to allow starting pitchers to relieve.
