1800's Schedules for OOTPx
Does anyone have schedules for 1871 through whenever the included OOTP schedules start making sense for the league/game setups the game ships with? Ex 1871 = 2 4tm leagues and 40 games but only 2 or 3 games a week.
The current schedules have way too many games a week and the season therefore ends in early May. It would be nice if OOTPx ships with better 1800's schedules. If anyone has them or knows where they are please point me to them. I don't see any here or in the schedule mod forum but maybe I'm just blind. I would like to propose them for inclusion in OOTPx. Thanks. |

Would be nice. But where do you end the season. In July or October?
I know in 1876 they were playing in september. Not sure for 1871-1875. Do you just play a 30 game schedule till July? I make all my schedules from April to October. 189 days. I set the all-star game as day 95 with the break being 93-97 days. At first there is a week between games but with only 1 pitchers you get plenty of rest. I just cant get use to a season being over in July. I think in the real leagues they were playing exhibition games in between league games. I try never to go above the NA, NL or the NL/AA combined team setup. If they have 13 teams then i go 12 at the most. I dont count UA or PL. So for me it wouldnt make sense to make a schedule using more than 8 teams for 1871. Nor would it make sense to make the schedule length more than 40 games for 1871. Anyway someone could just add games if they needed it. |

Would you be willing to share those schedules for inclusion in OOTPx?
They sound like what is needed. It seems you are matching the OOTP 1800's default league configurations and games played and have adjusted the number of games played in a week to stretch the season out appropriately. |

I will share what i have. Of course they arent perfect.
Basically i just split the 189 day season into 23 day sessions. 1-23, 24-46, 47-69, 70-92, 93-97 break, 98-120, 121-143, 144-166, & 167-189. Then within each session i schedule according to the total schedule length and total teams in the league. This helps me choose how many off days i need and how many games per day. Like when there are 10 teams in a league and 5 league games on the schedule. I schedule 2 league games on 1 day and 3 league games on the next. Sometimes i have to schedule a day when all teams play to keep from going over 23 days. |

the schedule end in October for 1871-1875 after all. Then again they were probably playing more games than the actual league games but still i cant get use to a baseball season ending in June or July. Thats the Kentucky Derby going half the track. Stretch runs in June just doesnt seem natural. |

The following list may be of help in figuring out how to structure your schedules. It shows the year, league, opening and closing date of that year's schedule, the number of days the schedule ran, and the number of games scheduled for each club. Since the NA had no fixed schedule, the number of games per team is quite varied. I've included both an average number including all teams, and a limited average featuring only those clubs which played a reasonable number of games that season (in order words, removing the teams that only played a small number of games). The range lists the lowest to highest number of games played that year. Code:
Avg Gms Avg Gms Year Lg Opens Closes Days (all) (ltd) Range -------------------------------------------------------------------- 1871* NA May 4 Oct 30 180 28.2 30.0 (top 7 teams) 19-33 1872* NA Apr 18 Oct 31 197 33.3 49.2 (top 5 teams) 9-58 1873* NA Apr 14 Nov 1 202 44.2 55.0 (top 6 teams) 6-60 1874* NA Apr 16 Oct 30 198 58.0 --- 47-71 1875* NA Apr 19 Oct 30 195 53.1 75.0 (top 7 teams) 13-86 Year Lg Opens Closes Days Games ---------------------------------------- 1876* NL Apr 22 Oct 21 182 70 1877 NL Apr 28 Oct 6 162 60 1878 NL May 1 Sep 28 151 60 1879 NL May 1 Sep 30 153 84 1880 NL May 1 Sep 30 153 84 1881 NL May 2 Sep 30 152 84 1882 AA May 2 Sep 30 152 80 NL May 1 Sep 30 153 84 1883 AA May 1 Sep 30 153 98 NL May 1 Sep 29 152 98 1884 AA May 1 Oct 16 169 110 NL May 1 Oct 11 164 112 UA Apr 30 Oct 15 169 112 1885 AA Apr 18 Oct 1 167 112 NL May 1 Oct 10 163 112 1886 AA Apr 17 Oct 11 178 140 NL Apr 29 Oct 9 164 126 1887 AA Apr 16 Oct 10 178 140 NL Apr 28 Oct 8 164 126 1888 AA Apr 18 Oct 17 183 140 NL Apr 20 Oct 13 177 140 1889 AA Apr 17 Oct 14 181 140 NL Apr 24 Oct 5 165 140 1890 AA Apr 17 Oct 13 180 140 NL Apr 19 Oct 4 169 140 PL Apr 21 Oct 4 167 140 1891 AA Apr 8 Oct 5 181 140 NL Apr 22 Oct 3 165 140 1892 NL Apr 12 Oct 15 187 154 1893 NL Apr 27 Sep 30 157 132 1894 NL Apr 19 Sep 30 165 132 1895 NL Apr 18 Sep 29 165 132 1896 NL Apr 16 Sep 27 165 132 1897 NL Apr 19 Oct 3 168 132 1898 NL Apr 15 Oct 15 184 154 1899 NL Apr 15 Oct 15 184 154 1900 NL Apr 19 Oct 14 179 140 *indicates data for that year is from as played schedule; other years use the original as scheduled schedule Last edited by Le Grande Orange; 04-28-2009 at 01:27 AM. |
