1966-1977 Boston Red Sox 1978-1980 Philadelphia Phillies 1981-1983 Philadelphia Athletics 1984 New York Giants 1985 Boston Red Sox Johnstone had a good long career. He had 2,581 hits. Career average of .289 and an obp of .353. That's really good because he was in a pitching era during his prime years. He won 4 pennants with Boston - 65(didn't have any games during the regular season, but came up in the post season), 73, 74, 75. And won a pennant with the Athletics in 81. World series champ in 65 and 75. he was also an all-star six times in his career. His best year was in 77 when he batted .308 with a .401 obp. He also hit 15 homeruns. Roy White 1965-1978 St. Louis Cardinals 1978-1979 Boston Red Sox 1980-1981 Pittsburgh Pirates 1981 Boston Red Sox White's career wasn't as long as Johnstone's...didn't have as many hits. But he had much better peak seasons. He ended with over 1,900 hits, and 217 homeruns. He had a career average of .287 and an obp of .379. He won 1 pennant with the Cardinals in 1968. They lost to the Tigers in the series that year(hmm). White was a 6 time all-star. 2 time gold glove winner and the 1967 rookie of the year. Andreas Galarraga 1987 Boston Red Sox 1987-1990 St. Louis Browns 1990-1991 Washington Senators 1992 Cleveland Indians 1993-1994 Chicago Cubs Galarraga's career is interesting. He has some decent years...hitting homeruns and getting on base. In 1992 he became a free agent and signed a big 4-year contract with the New York Giants. They traded him to the cubs before the season started and he had two okay years and then they sent him down to the minors. He still had decent ratings too. Then he retired in 96. In 7 years he had 186 homeruns. A season high of 37 in 1990. Career average of .284 and obp of .344. He didn't win any pennants. He was elected to 3 all-star games. 1991 AL MVP w/Washington Senators 98 runs 209 hits 37 doubles 32 homeruns 116 rbis .321 AVG .385 OBP |

How about Ferguson Jenkins, Steve Carlton, Richie Allen and Willie Horton.
Ps, Where can you get the Wagner book?

Ferguson Jenkins 1965-1977 New York Yankees 1977-1978 Boston Red Sox 1978 Pittsburgh Pirates Jenkins had an average career. Keep in mind that he started his career before they 3rd patch came out. So pitchers careers were usually shorter. The patch came out near the end of his career. He had a record of 182-182. Career ERA of 3.51. He won 0 pennants. He was selected to the all-star game 4 times. The most games he ever won in a season was 21...only time he ever reached 21 ones. Steve Carlton 1966-1974 Chicago Cubs 1975-1982 New York Yankees Career records for Carlton was 220-222. He had a similar career to Jenkins...slightly longer. Career ERA of 3.45. Struck out 3,017. He won 20 games twice. Won 4 pennants with the Cubs 69 won series 71 lost series 73 won series 74 won series All star selection 5 times. Richie Allen I'm not finding him in my list of retired players. What I am guessing is he development messed up or he had a career ending injury in the minors. I have players deleted who never reached the majors. Willie Horton 1964-1966 I'm 1967 his ratings just dropped like crazy, and never recovered. Hit 21 homeruns in 65 though.. ps - I got my Honus Wagner book at Barnes and Noble. I'm guessing you can find it on amazon too. "Honus Wagner on his life and baseball" by Cobb |

the problem with your statistical output is that you used a databse that was modified.. i believe the arod/garlons db .. was edited aside from just addign negro leaguers..
so this would explain why som eplayers were non existent i your leader board that probably should be. try using the original lahman's databse... id be interested in your findings due to the eroneous statistical output.. i never use modified databases... unless you sim hundreds of seasons to test it out... different things will happen (which isnt all bad). thepbl - All of the changes Arod23 and I made for our DB were specifically designed for improved historical simulating with OOTP. In the readme of our DB there are details about the various changes we made and why we made them.
If you use the raw Lahman DB for instance, Sandy Kofax will import as a Middle reliever with low endurance as a rookie because that's how he was used as a rookie in 1955. In our DB he will import as a SP as a rookie because that's how he was primarily used over the course of his career. He will also debut in his first full season (1957) instead of 1955 in our DB. We made many subtle changes like this so that players with small samples of AB or IP do not receive misrepresented ratings as rookies in OOTP. Another example would be the modifications we made to stolen baes and caught stealing. In the early 1900's caught stealing was nor tracked. So all that OOTP sees in the DB for Ty Cobb in say 1911 is 83 stolen bases and 0 caught stealing...this leads to misrepresented ratings. We went in and changed these things using the best data we could to estimate the missing caught stealing data so that players have more realistic ratings. |

I did a 1903 - 2006 sim, similar to yours in order to create a history for a solo league I'm going to play. I included all the expansions, franchise shifts and rule changes as well.
My franchise World Series champion tally is this: 13- New York/San Francisco Giants 11- New York Yankees 10- Philadelphia/Oakland Athletics 8 - Detroit Tigers 7 - Boston Red Sox 7 - Brooklyn/LA Dodgers 6 - Boston/Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves 5 - St. Louis Browns/Baltimore Orioles 5 - Kansas City Royals 4 - Cincinnati Reds 4 - St. Louis Cardinals 3 - Chicago Cubs 3 - Chicago White Sox 3 - Cleveland Indians 2 - Houston Astros 2 - Philadelphia Phillies 2 - Montreal Expos 1 - Colorado Rockies 1 - Florida Marlins 1 - Milwaukee Brewers 1 - Minnesota Twins 1 - New York Mets 1 - Pittsburgh Pirates 1 - San Diego Padres 1 - Tampa Bay Devil Rays 1 - Texas Rangers 0 - Los Angeles Angels 0 - Arizona Diamondbacks 0 - Seattle Mariners 0 - Toronto Blue Jays The strength of the teams was pretty much historically accurate up until free agency came around, when it became an anything goes environment. The greatest slugger of all time had to be Eddie Matthews of the Bos/Mil/Atl Braves. (1952-1973) He is the all-time leader in Home Runs with 737 as well as a host of other offensive stats. (Ruth was 15th with 538, McGwire 2nd with 660) Pitching is a tougher call but probably Christy Matthewson with 454 wins was the best. Nolan Ryan frustrated me by retiring in 1989 with 298 wins and 4978 K's. Oh so close to some milestones there! It's always interesting to see the twists and turns in a players or franchises fortunes in these kinds of sims. |
