Why does league file screw up for certain owners?
Every sim or so, I will get emails that information is in the wrong place in an individual GMs league file.
For example, a GM updates the league file from inside the game and then reports the following: 1. When I click on my team schedule, I see box scores for games that are not mine. 2. I get messages about salary arbitration for other teams. What is happening?

I'm experiencing this as a GM in one of my leagues. My commish has given me a new league file, which I installed after wiping the old league folder. My symptoms are that when I click on an in-game HTML link, I get a different player than the one I clicked on.

I've noticed that problem occurs for owners when I don't include the "names.dat" file as part of the update. OOTP says it's only necessary to include at certain times, but it's been my experience that I need to include it every sim or there will be trouble.

In the JL, the online league I run, we have about 2000 players in our universe, and we've played for six-and-a-half seasons, and when I include the names.dat file, it comprises 2.8% of the total size of the league file. So, in our case, the cost of including it is low. |

Turning names.dat back on seems to be working for me, too.

My experience is that names.dat should always be included in the new file. Occasionally retired.dat will cause similar problems so we always include that file as well. Never a problem when both are included.

I would highly suggest always including both of those files every single time. They are not really that large and so many things break when they are not included. Despite the game saying they are optional at times, that is not my experience.
