Parker's character Hawk was played by three different actors. Avery Brooks also played Hawk in a TV series A Man Called Hawk.

More Palooka
Bear, this is some information I picked up on Kirkwood. He stands 6 ft 1 inc and weighs 201 pounds. He was born in Australia, and originally won fame as a golfer. He was signed in 1945 by Warner Brothers and later portrayed Joe Palooka in a series of movies produced by Allied Artists. Kirkwood is said to do all his scenes without a stand-in and was twice kayoed during some of the action scenes by former professional (Jack Roper and Hal Fieberling).

Joe Palooka Rating and Bio
Here is my rating of the fictional Joe Palooka. Edit his date of birth to 1913 (refer below).
http://www.kiva.net/~jonjeff/joe_palooka.htm Joe Palooka was one of the most famous comic strip characters in the 1940's. The cartoon figure was created by cartoonist Ham Fisher in 1928 as a 15-year-old who beat up neighborhood bullies. As he grew older, he became a boxing champion managed by Knobby Walsh. Palooka became the country's most patriotic character in 1942 when he stepped down from the ring to enlist as a private in the United States Army. Palooka was such a hero that when the Limestone Industry planned to celebrate the business' 100th anniversary in 1948, it decided to reproduce Palooka's likeness. Bedford stone carvers' George Hitchcock and Harry Easton began working on the statue at the Indiana Limestone Company and finished the work on Bedford's square. Fisher and 4,500 people attended the dedication on June 16, 1948. The statue was placed at the Indiana Limestone's Dickinson Park on old IN 37. After being vandalized numerous times the statue was moved to the Hoosier-Joyner Limestone Mill in Oolitic. After several years the statue was taken to the Bedford FOP Park. In 1984 the Bedford FOP donated the statue to Oolitic, and it was moved to its present location on Main Street between the Town Hall and the Post Office.

Hi Bear,
Question for you, regarding Henry Cimoli. In the Spencer novels, they often reflect on Cimoli's fights with Willie Pep and Sandy Saddler. As a result I always got the impression he was a Featherwight. Should he be a FW? Austin |

I have only one concern regarding the ratings of Joe Palooka and Big Ben Bolt. In both comic strips they seem to emulate John L. Sullivan and refuse to box any black fighters. As a result could their ratings be a little inflated? As a little boy I remember reading a comic book where Bolt loses his title in a 15 rd decision to a boxer who looks a lot like Jack Dempsey. Does anyone have any details regarding this and if so did they have a rematch?

Rating problem in my fictional universe
In my fictional universe, there are 7 HW’s with 10 or more bouts. Only one of them is ranked. Even when I try to input a rating manually by using the Edit Rank feature of the side menu, only the 1 boxer is ranked. All my other groups, but fictional, rank boxers after 10 bouts. I even try moving a fictional boxer into one of the other groups and they still can’t get ranked. Anybody have an idea what’s wrong?

Austin[/QUOT Check your fighter career dates vs rating date, and that you have them in the proper group.
