There really isn't anything to work out. Spending money doesn't immunize you from the rules. Now or ever I would hope.

Sorry, but pouring $5000 into a game isn't sympathy-inducing. If a guy loses thousands at a casino (due to his own fault in flouting the rules) is that something we should feel empathy for? lol

Some of these whales don't get it that they're not actually buying stock in the game/company or an extra seat at the development table just because they open their wallets over and over and over again. Doesn't make them any more immune to rules than the rest of us small timers.

If he "works something out" then the dev team shows that you can buy your way out of egregious rule breaking, so I sure hope he doesnt

If you spent $5,000 on fictitious baseball cards, with ZERO asset value, OOTP did you a favor. You need help, now you will have the time and money to get it.

While I agree with the ban, if this is indeed Mr 4001, I still donīt think itīs proper to ridicule someone about how they spend their money. This moralizing is in poor taste and how anyone decides to spend their money is their own business, not that of anyone here.

If your concern is really for the game, I get it. OOTP have to protect their game and being strict (even if out of the blue) is probably the best way to do it.

But that's not how the piling on in this thread comes off.

Unless they make it our business by creating a thread with the expressed purpose of drawing attention to it...

I have no problem with anyone spending $5000 on this game. But, I do turn up my nose at people who do that and then still don't think it's enough of an advantage so they try to go on and scheme/exploit the system to the detriment of the rest of us.

can't let someone get away with breaking the rules just cause they spent a lot of money. That only happens in real-life.

I agree people ridiculing someone for spending money are wrong. They are the reason the game exists for the rest of us.

The ridicule comes from him thinking that spending that much is a reason he shouldn't be banned for his cheating

He deserves to be ridiculed for cheating, not for spending a large sum of money on the game. I spent all of ten bucks to get my new team started, but everyone benefits from those who spend more.
I do have a problem that he seems to think it should get him a get out of jail free card however.

People say this, but people have hobbies that cost way more than that. Or go on vacations for 1 week that cost more than that. Or spend more than that at bars. With as many hours as we put into this game, it's not outrageous. We aren't just putting these cards on a digital shelf, we are competing in a very enjoyable game.

Basically, you guys need to stop hobby shaming.

I agree in principle with you 100%. 5k is WAY WAY WAY more than I would pay for a couple of years of gaming. I believe I spent about $700 on both 19 and 20. I consider the cost as entertainment across two years. 5k in one year? Only if I win the lottery or had previously won it.

That said, for a rich man that doesn't sound too outrageous. Doesn't excuse cheating.

Thing is, if you got 5k floating around for PT spend some cash on your other team instead of cheating.....

People just put their resources towards different things. Most of the world would say that all of us are absolute fools for investing hundreds or even thousands hours into a fake baseball simulation game.

Most of the world would feed their family of nine for a month on what somebody spends if he buys OOTP XX during the All Star sale.

+++

I wished all the judging would stop. "That guy spent $X on my favorite game. How dare he??" spoken with self-righteous indignation. "We are the No Money League", for all the elitists out there. "This evil person listed card Y for this and that much!" - yeah, that leech should be drowned in a river, too, huh?

...and you, and you, aaand you over there, you are all playing the game wrong!

Stop it. Just ****ing stop it. It's worse than in a sand-box full of kids and only one red shovel in here. Play the ****ing game, mind your own ****ing teams, and stop pointing fingers at everybody else, goddamnit.

Except for cheaters. Cheaters gotta go.

I am a retired CPA with over 30 years of experience, What I posted was correct.
75% of people who fall into one of these categories, will have major financial problems throughout their life or need to file bankruptcy.
1. People who spend large amounts of money on fictitious items in video games.
2. People who win the lottery - 5 years after they have won
3. Professional Athletes - 5 years after they retired.

Lesson Here:
Don't be one of these people who are fiscally irresponsible.
