The Official Auction House Laughs Thread
Official in the sense I said it was....unfortunately I don't a have bunch of authority here....
That said, how about a very mediocre Ventura. Decent defense but contact I would never put up with......mark it up double what it usually goes for......no, let's make a bold statement and make it 10x the latest prices....lol....

I sold mine for 30k. But wouldn't have minded keeping it without auction house frenzy. It's a sneaky good card, those cards with all green ratings are better than they look at first glance. Plus great defense at 3B and 2B.

Looks like someone got bored and decided to put up a bunch of trash auctions once again. Lots of wasted effort if you ask me...

LOL...I believe someone on here called it price discovery. I would call it "let's see who is --- enough to bite on this".....which I find sort of insulting.....

That Eckersley for 15K isn't even the worst auction by far. At least there's some demand for it due to the Oakland A's collection mission.
There were others going up for 50K and 100K (all around the same time so it had to be the same schmuck doing it) that were neither great cards nor being snapped up in collections. That McReynolds is actually a good example.

Someone is only wasting their own time listing things that will never sell so I don't really find it to be such a game destroying problem.
It just has to work once so if there aren't any other copies on the market someone might get desperate. I sold a perfect ruth for 300K when the past 7 was 145K, I'll take the extra 135K points compared to the "right" price of 150K even if some people find it "insulting" Got another one now too along with some other guys trying to sell around 220. Hoping none sell for a week and that 145K last seven price disappears haha. |

Whoever has that 70-OA Rickey Henderson listed for 35k, yeah, I doubt it's selling for that price. Rickey has been going crazy high in value (12k avg sell the last week), but not *that* high yet.

Actually, all the crazy "I've got to win that collection, even if it costs me 5x what the collection will get me" phase is finished, but the listers haven't gotten the word. Within a few weeks, the listing prices will go back down "close" to where they were before collections were released.

I'm a bit torn regarding the 84 Killebrews up for sell. Should I go for the 3500 BIN, the 5000 BIN, or the 15000 BIN. I'm wondering if the 15K BIN will play better since he's obviously worth 3 to 4 times more than the others.

Could be people are employing a strategy where they identify good, high-priced cards (in this case the better gold version of Eckersley) and then sell the worse version at a price similar to what the good one goes for. The idea being someone could just be waiting for Eckersley, and not remember which version, and impulsively buy the silver version thinking they got the good one.
Or maybe I'm just overthinking it and it's standard garden-variety tomfoolery. |

I'm not sure if it's ever actually worked, but my favorite trick to see is adding on a 0 to the price. 200,000 for a card that usually sells for 30,000 and people might think they are getting a great deal at 20,000 and jump too quickly to buy. The flaw seems to be that anyone with enough points to buy it isn't dumb enough to fall for that.
